Posted Thursday 12th April 2012 ArabTRUST has representation in the Boardroom of Dundee United, so as a supporters' group we are in a unique position to be kept fully informed of and indeed, where possible, influence, the policy of the Club. Our position has always been that we fully support the introduction of stringent and pro-active financial fair play rules and support moves to make the SPL more democratic. We believe that the majority of our members and indeed United supporters, would agree with any measures which would help prevent the difficulties experienced at Dundee FC, Motherwell, Livingston, Gretna and now Glasgow Rangers and the ongoing situation at Hearts. You may be aware that strict financial fair play rules were called for in the Supporters Direct 'Fan's Plan' which came about from a survey of Scottish Trusts last year (well before, for example, Rangers went into administration). Unfortunately this did not attract much attention at the time, but now of course appears prophetic. Details of the fans' plan can be found on the Supporters Direct website. We will reinforce these views and discuss the new developments announced this week with Chairman Stephen Thompson at an early meeting. We have also asked Supporters Direct to raise the matter at a meeting with Neil Doncaster and Stuart Regan which is scheduled for later this month as we believe a collective approach on these issues carries more weight. We think it is fair to say that these individuals are well aware that the vast majority of Scottish football supporters do not wish to see any club receive preferential treatment with regard to financial fair play or in facing the consequences of any breaches in the rules.
I still don't think people are getting it. The financial crisis was caused by a loss of confidence and the same will happen to scottish football. Why would anyone invest in scottish football when there is no security for your money. As for the rangers fans boycotting games the proposals will be voted against by the celtic board as it would be financial suicide for celtic to accept these proposals. I do think the administrators will accept it though as it will help them from a legal position in doing a newco. The case I posted yesterday (dkll v hmrc) could be legally challenged by hmrc as it currently stands the there isn't any punishment for going down the newco route. The important point in the case was that it would save jobs and the creditors got more money than if liquidation was the outcome. With rangers however it can be argued that jobs will be lost anyway after the sale. The company is not in a profit making position and without cuts can't be. As for the getting more money than if liquidation it would depend on the bids but its unlikely there will be much difference in the amount the creditors recieve either way. They will be buying an insolvent company that will be of the same value either pre-packed or as a brand new company. The only difference will be the loss of the squad but they will need to be drastically reduced anyway as confirmed by the administrators. Ultimatlley it will appear to the courts that rangers are using the law to break contracts and avoid tax. To the courts that is unnacceptable and would grant a liquidation order to stop them doing that. Thats why these proposals will atleast appease the courts that there is some sort of punishment in place to stop this. Football clubs brought this on thereselves with there own rules regarding settling debt and allowing history to transfer so easily. Celtic fans wishing for there history to dissapear need to remember that as far as uefa is concerened... if it plays in blue, at ibrox and every second touch is a tackle. Then its rangers.
Do you think the Rangers Trust will offer the ArabsTrust "Outside" for a scrap? I'll bet St Mirren offer to hold the jackets.
