This isn't strictly true. The need to pause for breath is a physical requirement and has little to do with written grammar. People often pause for breath in places that would make little sense if transcribed to text.
A comma is more correctly used to separate discrete clauses within a sentence and help indicate the emphases that would be obvious in speech.
The rules for comma usage are complex and not necessarily universally applied. House styles vary.

I just read an article stating that the last friendly in the US, against Manchester utd is nowhere near sold out. if fact it coyld be half empty stadoum.

i have seen Michigan stadium and it's massive but apparently you can pay up to $500 for prime seats despite this not being even cl9se to sold out.

this seems a giant rip off at this point and high time it stops.

    what a man.

I can imagine him clowning all game just to get the miserable git crack the merest flicker imo a smile.

one man is aging rapidly and looks miserable in life.

the other is a nutty awkward ball of energy.

Very few "star" players there this year because of the WC, every game has been poor on attendance compared to past pre-seasons there from European teams.

It's a literary style with no rules. I can't remember the name of the book but I'm sure when I studied the Beat Generation writers there was one who wrote a book that was just one sentence. Lots of punctuation but just one full stop.

Well obviously commas aren't used just for pauses for breath but look who I was explaining it to :bandit:

Thank you for the lesson in their use. Having had Eats, Shoots and Leaves thrust upon me in the first year of my degree, there's not much I don't know about punctuation. Whether or not I use it is another matter <laugh>

    .
Sorry if that came across as didactic, it was only meant to be a discussion.
Despite the accusations on here, I don't consider myself to be an expert on grammar. I'm interested in words and their creative potential, so vocabulary is more my thing.
