Stevenage beat MK Dons 4-2. The Franchise are 13 points behind us now and no longer a threat. That cuts it down to Charlton v the two Sheffields, and Huddersfield. Wednesday won at Scunthorpe 1-3 so we now have seven points and a game in hand of all three. Let's enjoy watching them trip each other up.
Ye gods, did you see the crowd at Stevenage? They're on a great run, with or without a manager, they're up to sixth and have just stuffed "the best footballing team in the league" (Copyright K. Robinson) and there were only 3,345 there. If you're a player that's just flogged his guts out for the win, I can't imagine how disheartening that must be.
They don't seem to be disheartened. On the contrary they have only got as far as they have because of their great team spirit. They play horrible football but they are doing what works for them. They are like the old Wimbledon. The difference is Stevenage is not a large town (less than 90.000) and it is in a largely rural area. And that catchment area is shared with older established clubs like Luton and Cambridge. However well they do they will never increase their fan base by much. So they have to make do with rejects like our Stacy Long and Lawrie Wilson.
If the season carries on like it's been going so far, with four teams battling for 2nd right to the end, it could well be that whoever wins the Stevenage/Carlisle/Bournemouth race for sixth will be likely to win the playoffs as they'll have momentum and won't be disappointed to be in the playoffs.
Leicester fan here Glad you r doing so well, i've pleased that Chris Powell is doing so well and he will definitly get you up this year nd i seen view of your games this year on tv and think u'l have great chance nxt footy season aswell in the championship (jst hope we in premier league 4 that season). its good to see that Micheal Morrison (my g/f loved him wen he was at city) nd Yann Kermogant is doing well for you, good luck for rest of season
Good luck to them, Stevenage is doing incredibly well without the same funds to spend on players as the heavyweights including our club. From what I've heard their brand of football is not much different from some other L1 clubs and their style works well for them. I'm looking forward to seeing them play at the Valley.
Cheers for the kind words. I need Leicester to start climbing that table and challenge West Ham. My accum at the start of the season was Citeh, Leicester, CAFC and Crawley. £20 at 790/1!
I thought with Sven and the money they were spending (plus players already there like King and Wellens) that it was a sure thing. Everyone did tell me to go for West Ham. But they also told me to go for Huddersfield.
its 2 bad Leicester didn't hav the form nd commitment we seem 2 be on nw at the start of the season cause your other choices look like they'l almost certain to be correct You never knw with the championship tho it cud happen we wud need alot of results to go r way nd for us to keep winning
Stevenage is not just a small town but it is one of the new towns that people moved out to in the years after the 2nd world war. There are vastly more Arsenal, tottenham and whammers fans there than Stevenage borough supporters . That they could get that many for a game with the franchise on a Tuesday night is a credit to a club that was non league two years ago. I doubt that many franchise fans travelled the thirty odd miles. however what are the odds on Steve age beating hudders in the play off final.
