People use the term centre-half to refer to what you would call a centre-back. It's the truth, guv'nor.
what he brings to the table. many managers use this one. this really erks me as tables are not used on a football pitch
Isn't this a football table? 1 Southampton 16 20 36 2 West Ham 16 15 31 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 Middlesbrough 16 8 30 4 Cardiff 16 9 27 5 Blackpool 16 7 25 6 Crystal Palace 16 4 25 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 Leeds 16 1 25 8 Derby 16 -1 24 9 Hull 15 -1 24 10 Brighton 16 2 23 11 Peterborough 16 3 22 12 Leicester 16 1 22 13 Birmingham 13 4 21 14 Reading 16 1 21 15 Ipswich 15 -6 20 16 Portsmouth 16 1 19 17 Millwall 16 1 18 18 Burnley 15 -3 18 19 Barnsley 16 -4 18 20 Nott'm Forest 16 -12 17 21 Watford 16 -11 16 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 Bristol City 16 -13 13 23 Coventry 16 -11 12 24 Doncaster 16 -15 12
For me, the one that annoys me is that thing I've done at the beginning of this sentence, starting it with a "for me" that's surplus to requirements. Taylor did it all the bloody time, and yes I've noticed I do it in posts occassionally as well, that's part of what annoys me about it.
I said it at the time (admittedly on the suggestion of others). AP actually said we weren't interested, and then went on to hire Pearson. The mind boggles.
To take it further, badge kissing. You might let someone like Gerrard get away with being a one club player and having had time to form an association, even though isn't he the one pictured at home in an Everton shirt as a kid, but other players do it as soon as they join a new club. There's even an agent who came out and admitted that he tells his players to do it when they score their first goal for a new club so they get in with the fans. Oh, and "he's an honest player", nearly always used to describe a player who's just blatanly and intentionally cheated.
Saints are top of the league, after coming from the division below. Hull City are ninth, after coming from the division above. I don't follow.
In a cockney accent: "what he's done is,.......he's got to bye-line and he's chipped it in, the strikers got his head to it, and it's gawn in"
