One thing that may improve is the style of outlet, hopefully waterproof and not just a couple of upturned boxes, completely open to the elements. Those long term sellers are heroes as far as I am concerned and I would personally like to thank them for being there when I needed them, thanks lads and lasses. [I have several Programmes from the past rain damaged while purchasing them!]
That's irrelevant, the fact is there are people who had a paid job now do not. They may have other sources of income, but it's still probably going to make a substantial impact on their monthly income. Therefore chances are they will have less disposable income and are less likely to buy certain consumer items. This in turn will affect the businesses in question, potentially leading to financial hardships, people being laid off, etc. People laid off will in turn spend less money, just exacerbating the effect. Of course, I'm not saying this move will cause the economy of Hampshire to implode or that it'll have such a dramatic effect. The point is, everything in the local, national and global economy is interlinked. It's like a capitalist version of six degrees of separation. Every action has a reaction and while the reaction may be small, many small reactions can lead to bigger reactions. Additionally, my earlier point was Southampton have no real need to do this, you have plenty of money so it's not a necessity which makes this course of action during a recession a bit irresponsible. And don't get me wrong, I'd be mightily upset if Portsmouth did this.
You cant blame NC for everything and as i said earlier im all for change if it works. As you could see from the letter the sellers got the words "thankyou for your time and effort" were missing. If that would have been said i dont think there would be as much of an issue here.
“We appreciate your loyalty and contribution over the course of your time with the club and we would like to highlight this change was not an easy decision but a necessary change for the development of the operation going forward.” Maybe not exactly "thanks" but it is an acknowledgment of their efforts.
That sounds like an appreciation of effort which is like clapping someone from the pitch, which isn't so bad really.
i still think timing was poor, but the letter includes a thank you which we were told it didn't. However, apart from their lost money (which on a small income does make a difference) and their free entrance, the programme sellers will miss the social side. It's a great hobby...every other week doing something for your club, meeting fans, and meeting the other sellers. It will be a big hole in their lives and I'm sorry for them. Thanks guys for what you did.
That's the red and white stripes gone, the programme sellers and we even managed to lose our name for a period but South coast team was never going to catch on i suppose.Oh and i almost forgot Alan Pardew, but to be fair you have to add balance to all that we have lost our Div one status and gained a Nigel into the bargain its always bee n fun supporting the Saints so lets hope the last thing we fans lose is our sense of humour.
Bad karma this is .....I always buy my programme from the same seller every game its part of my pre-match ritual this is really going to muck up my OCD! Joking apart I always thought they did a good job and will miss the banter with my seller every home game.
I'm boycotting the Programme today. The fact I've boycotted the programme for the last 15 years is neither here nor there. #prayfortheprogrammesellers
