    Avoid Belgium.

As long as you've done 20 hours with an instructor and failed your test you can still drive by yourself as long as you take your test again within 18 months. Fail that and you can still drive by yourself for another 18 months.

It's estimated that only about 30% of the Brussels population actually have a full driving licence.

Bought a brand new car and was bricking it whilst living there.

Jebus! I'm not a fan of rigid regulations but that is ridiculous. The road mortality rate must be through the roof there?

First theory, passed, first practical, passed :smiley-finger007: Only 5 minors :smiley-finger007::smiley-finger007: Haha!

Tash, i agree with this. I got banned when i was younger for drink driving* (hadn't even taken a theory test), but honestly i passed with ease. 3 of my minors were for the same thing (lucky, i know).

Go for it man, it's a weight off. At least now i have the paper so dont have to worry about doing it again.

*I have looked at insurance... **** me. Bordering 3k for a 1.4 Fiesta!

The missus had her first knock a few months back after driving for 3 years and it was the tiniest of dents to the other car who hit her as he was on the wrong side of the road.

Her insurance had been £400 per annum. Renewal form came through last week and they want £2000 per annum.

She now has insurance with an alternate company still at £400 per annum.

    I pay £250 a year - full comp ;)

Interesting to read though that many of the companies don't want your business at that age so they give ridiculous quotes that they hope you won't take up. Definitely have to shop around!

Register the car in Romania and get insurance there <whistle>

Also you can't get speeding fines in the UK... I've heard...

That's similar to what happened to me - insurance was £2k/year fully comp, renewal form came through for £3.5k, went on a few comparison sites and managed to receive quotes for £1k from a different company and £1.3k for the same one who tried to make me pay £3.5k!
So I've changed companies at £1k/year not bad really considering size of my car's engine & the 3 points.

Wein - I can't remember what it was called, but there's a specialist insurance company aimed specifically at young lads, modified cars, specialist cars (rallys/racing etc) and so on - most my mates used them in 6th form as they were cheaper than the bigger companies, might be worth a google search!

    Aye that's the one!
Haha my parents when I passed preferred me to get my own car as it was a newish freelander at the time, since replaced it last year with a brand freelander 2, so I'd have no chance!
Still though I like my Clio - £30 a year for tax & gets about 50 mile to the gallon, although it's costing me about £65 to top up now with the price of fuel!

I did an intensive course over a week and drove about 7 hours a day from Monday to Friday, took the test on Saturday and passed.

This was before theory came into practice.

I had thirteen lessons at a driving school and some home tuition from my grandad and passed first time. Theory test hadn't started yet.

    cheers lads <ok>.
I had no experience with cars or anything before my first test so It's took me a good while to get used to it, 10hours so far and I think I should be on course to pass within 20 (hopefully)

Then the following happened to it
    Flat Tyre
    Exhaust fell off on A690
Speedometer cable snapped so had to guess 30 mile a hour through town centre.
