I’ve been in once, to see what they were like. First person I clocked was an Asian juicer, about 24 years old, bald as ****, swole from the waist up and legs hidden in a pair of joggers cos he’d never stepped foot inside a rack. Depressing places.
I assume you mean state school because public schools are private. I don't think you meet too many posh kids in state schools but there are plenty of 'ordinary ' kids in private schools.
^^^^^^ EDIT: just re-read my comment. I didn't mean to come across as a smarty pants mate. One of the peculiarities is that whereas in every other circumstance public means the opposite to private, in the British education system it means the same thing. When I've seen the word 'public' in some comments here I genuinely don't know if it's meant to say 'state' instead as in state schools being the opposite of private/ public schools.
Ironically private schools are generally named public schools to avoid any doubt. State schools are what most plebs go to. Even if i had the money i wouldnt send my kids to private. 200k+ to send them to private. I would rather save that money up and let them have it as a deposit on a house than splurge on private education
Just by way of playing devil's advocate - you don't think a great education is the best thing you can give your child?
Nope. Firstly i dont think the social side is great. Secondly im proud of my working class roots so I'm not sure theres anything wrong mixing with all levels. Thirdly educations much more than the teaching, its what you learn out of school and you can always get help when you are at home Fourthly im much more about being happy rather. Obviously i will encourage a child to be educated and enjoy learning and picking extra curricular activities but i don't think private school is required. Also if you arent super rich i think it provides undue pressure on your child if they have learnt how much you have spent. Lastly id rather a happy nice human than one thats smart and well connected. For someone who isnt academic (i think half of this is genes), then that money is far more useful than sending them to private school
maybe, but if you can afford it, isn't it better to help them get educated and make thier own way in life, rather than thinking daddy will help me to buy a house?
don't think he was suggesting that he wouldn't send his little ones to school just not a public one. You do realise not all people who go to public school actually have successful careers.
Only just seen this and about to have Dinner . Is this limited to schools in the uk ? Will post tomorrow .
You can't possibly know about the social side. There are lots of working class children in private school. All proud of their roots and getting a good look at how the other half lives as they rub shoulders every day with some posh kids knowing that in areas where it counts, they are every bit as good as them. Not a lot of posh kids in state schools so not as good a mix of social and economic backgrounds. Obviously education is much more than teaching but we send our kids to school to learn the stuff we can't teach them at home. The better the school, the better chances and choices they'll have in life. Moral upbringing and core values are learnt at home. The 'better' the parents / care givers, the 'better' the child. A private education isn't necessary for happiness, I agree. There are lots of nice happy humans that are also smart and well connected. Money won't buy you happiness but it can give you far more opportunities in life if spent well. A good education is the base you build your life on so go for the very best one available to you which may or may not be a private one.
I know mate, i've worked with loads off graduates down the years. Even now, just hoying stuff around around is people working with me with degrees coming out off their ears.
Think there is quite a lot of "posh" kids in the state system ,particularly in the south ,especially in areas where the schools have a good rep. There are just a handful of non posh kids at the well known public schools
