He can hardly be blamed for breaking his leg twice. can he? I'd hardly call that 'injury problems'. I think Jenkinson will be fine. I also think we'll see more from Santos this year. Both of those have had 1 year PL experience now which always helps.
I don't really understand what you're getting at with that answer. Unless you're making out that a man coming off the back of two leg breaks is going to be in great shape and that there isn't now an increased possibility of him picking up more niggles throughout the season?
I know what Magic man means, a leg break is not like a recurring injury problem, just a freak bit of bad luck. The fact that it happened twice is extremely freakish. But I do have some concern that approaching Thirty, Sagna may struggle to find his best form and fitness again. I agree about Santos though, I think he looks like a really decent LB, when he first came, he made some mistakes, but that isn't too surprising, coming into a new team with lots of new players. I thought when he settled he played some really good football, both defensively and going forward.
Yes and people that break their legs usually have recurring injury problems and since Bacary has now done it twice, there is a very big chance that he's gonna pick up more injuries throughout the season. So we've either got to be ready to have Jenko playing a lot of football or bring someone else in to back up.
Well, it's my article that's advocating buying another RB, but I would still have to say that leg breaks are freak injuries and not in the same category as recurring injuries like hamstring or calves strain. I think Sagna is going to need time, both to get back to playing and then to get back to full fitness and form. But my point is that whilst we've got players who can cover there, I think we need to be exploring the opportunities to bring in another top quality RB for the long term.
I completely agree with your buying a new RB point, but I really don't see why you and Magic Man don't understand my injury point. Breaking a leg is a serious injury which isn't itself an injury "problem" as it can't be recurring (apart from in this case as Sagna was unlucky). But people who suffer serious injuries such as leg breaks always tend to suffer many injury problems AFTER they have recovered from the break as the leg hasn't been in use for some months so all of the muscles, tendons etc in the leg will be more likely to be strained and injured easily. Therefore it's quite likely that Sagna will miss a few more games than just the start of the season as he will no doubt pick up these niggles while his muscles recover too. So, because of this we definitely need a new RB as Jenkinson is not ready to play that many games.
I think there are too many variables to say that he'll definitely suffer injuries relating to a broken leg. He could come back at hit the ground running without any strains etc, but I take your point that until he's back up to full fitness, he risks picking up other injuries.
The concern for me is that his leg was plated and the second break was not a re-brake. The bone snapped at the edge of the plate (not uncommon). maybe there was some contact I didn't see in the spuds game but both times he seems to have done it by landing after going for a header. I think he is amazing but I'm not expecting to see more than half a season from him. Wenger brought in lots of diet changes etc when he joined, can he please get Sagna eating petit filous?
I've broken both of my arms very badly in the past, and while I've not had the same medical treatment the guys at Arsenal get, nor am I a professional athlete, in my experience one really struggles to get back to the same strength as before. With Sagna nearing thirty, I think the possibility should at least be entertained that he won't reach his previous level. Hell, I still worry about Ramsey. You never fully get over that sort of an injury.
yes to get sahin and i think our shopping would be done, if we were going to go for a right back we would need an athletic one that is willing to get up and down the flanks and both and attack and defend well. I'm still hopeful that gibbs will develop into a high class left back, he just needs a run of games, i'm less optimistic about santos, he looks lazy and as a defender that is something that you cannot be.
I've had an idea, based on the Mexican olympic football team. We should sign a new starting calibre RB (Debuchy etc.), and when Song returns, play him as a DM. It worked with Mexico and Salcido, they realised his pace had gone, so they took advantage of his tackling and physical ability by putting him in the middle. Bacary Sagna is excellent positionally, and a good tackler, and reads the game excellently, therefore he would make a very good CDM.
It made Salcido look good, it'll make Sagna look even more world class than he already is. he may need to bulk up a little though.
That's a good idea Kyle?, I don't think he would have to bulk up though, he is already well built and seems to have a reputation amongst his peers of being the 'hard man' in the team.
