excellent way to think about transfers i think. 2. I'd put an order on it personally. 3.... here's my list of priorities.. last year ithought i got it right and got pillioried for daring to suggest a cb and lb were needed even if i kept saying a striker was no 1... 1. Honestly i think we need to buy another forward as no 1 priority.. we now have 2 as i think borini is not good enough so if you count him we need 4 to really compete. I'd spend 20mil here no question. 2. I would be looking for a replacement for downing. is that countinho or is he the AM peopel are talking about. sell downing for 10 if you can and spend it o na replacmement. 3. A CB will have to be very close behind replacing downing. I'd nearly put it no 2 as coates for me bottled it v oldham and doesn't look likes he's put a lick of effort into improving in 18months. We've two yuong guys in kelly and wisdom that are potential emergency cover but are they what you want? I'd like to see us buy a dominant type i nthe hangeland mould as finding a hyppia is going to be hard. I'd put up to 10mil into the right guy. 4. I would want next a really good midfielder along the lines of an alonso.. i just do not believe in defensive midfielders and honestl lucas has more about him that just a destroyer i nthe mould of sissoko. I think we do want someone 6 feet or over as people have indicated. I mean lets talk hamann.. he had more about him than just defense.... this has got to be better than allen at 15mil. 5. We need better than brad jones. sorry but he can't kick for toffee and makes mistakes even if he proved to me that hes got something. Butland was an error by us IMO. We should have got him. If pepe is bid on this will go to no 1 on the list. If not we are in a situation where this is buying a reserve... and thats hard to justify more than 5mil of our limited funds. 6. I would also add an LB but would want to spend 3/5mil max. Robinson IMO is good but needs a laon to really grow and with enrique there we're not going to give him enough games. I'd love to see us pursue a policy of loaning real talent with a view to devleoping not selling and see this kid as ideal for this... so i'd like an arbeloa type... with glen covering this had got to be lower on the list all in all i stil lthink 50mil is required here not including sales to push us back to competitiveness. So can we afford the wages too?
We can afford the wages; we've saved alot the last two transfer windows and cut back an awful lot of spending here. Assuming we sell Carroll (probably closer to 10mill than the 17mill the loan option says), Downing (we'd be lucky to get 7mill) and Coates (maybe 5mill), we can reinvest well into replacing them. There's also the strong posibility of both Reina and Skrtel leaving...as long as we don't sell cheaply, we can have a good summer window with quality reinvesting into better players.
You could do it if you want, just thought if the transfer thread was to be changed to January/Summer transfer rumours like the Arsenal board then every rumour can go in there instead of having two separate threads, albeit for two different transfer windows.
as i have said in a previous post RAID valencia they need the money :- Sofiane Feghouli £10-15 mill,Sergio Canales £6-9 mill, adil rami £6-9 mill,Aly Cissokho £7-9 mill.
A striker suggestion. Lukaku. Edit: Here is another question worth asking. Would you consider or be happy with some kind of deal that see's Carroll leave to Newcastle with Tiote joining us as part of the deal.
Lukaku I wouldn't say no too, physical presence like Andy Carroll but scores more. I doubt Rodgers would be interested in signing him anyway, not his type of player. He wouldn't be cheap either, Chelsea paid £18m for him and they would want to make most of that back if they were to sell him. I don't rate Tiote that much tbh, just my opinion though of course. If we were going to do a player swap in the deal then I'd like either Cabaye or HBA, and that won't happen anyway.
Look at it this way - They have Torres and Ba ATM, when the seasons up and Lukaku goes back to the Chavs, who are they going to get rid of? Lukaku? Nope! Torres! Ummm yep! (If someone will have him ofc)
Can see Chelsea in for Falcao or Cavanni come summer. Doubt Ambramovich will pay much attention to these new financial regulations.
Definitely, not saying that Lukaku will definitely stay at the Chavs but if they do decide to get rid, it won't be cheap. He's clearly doing well at WBA and can score plenty of goals once given the chance. And if they don't get Falcao then Lukaku is definitely a better back up than Torres is
Chelsea will face huge competition from City though. Balotelli has left City. Tevez is rumoured to be wanting his return to Brazil, and I can see Dzeko leaving to. I can definately see Cavani joining City.
I don't really want us to be looking at players like Lukaku for the summer if we were going to look at a striker. And by like Lukaku, I mean players who would cost a decent amount. Whoever we buy, they won't start, because we play 4-3-3 (of some sort) and there's no way we'll buy someone to start ahead of Sturridge as that would be a waste of funds the way he's started here. Obviously if someone like Falcao was available then we'd have to make an exception but I'm doubting someone proven like him will be available. We don't have the funds to just throw money at a position we aren't desperate for like Man City & Chelsea can. We should look at the smaller clubs for a young back up striker that has good potential, a habit of scoring goals and will not cost much at all.
I'll leave it to the masses to decide! Personally, I prefer the type of thread where the OP is updated.....I won't have time for that so I vote NO!
