Wasn't a swipe at you, it was at the sentiments of that person you mentioned. I delivered papers that morning made a ****load of money as there was loads of extra rounds to deliver the supliments which were sent out a few hours after the main papers
I too remember both. When Di died I was in bed. When JFK got shot I was swimming around still in my dad's bollocks.
I woke up, mam told me, watched a bit of it on the news, then went out for a kick about up the field with my mates.
I was out the house, turned the telly on, watching the news for 10 minutes then saw the 2nd plane hit the tower live. I remember the reporter saying that we were watching a replay of the 1st plane then realising in shock that we were watching the 2nd one go in live. Then watching the towers collapse......madness!
Working in Surrey. Got sent home. Plus holiday for her funeral. So she was good for something aftee all.
2nd plane, that when I tuned in too. Was on nights at the time so was in bed, used to go to kip with the tv on, just so happened to wake up as the 2nd plane hit, naturally I thought I was dreaming at first.
We were watching it live at work and saw the second one fly in. Then the Pentagon was hit and another was unaccounted for. I think at one point 3 or 4 planes were unaccounted for.
Bit harsh on Diana, some of you. She married when she was young and found that her husband was in love with a horse-faced woman and her primary function was as an approved breeding unit for the succession. Once she was in the goldfish bowl she was ****ed. Not a fan or anything, but who'd wish that life on anyone?
You are not entirely convincing. Born with a Silver Spoon lodged firmly in her mouth, daughter of an Earl, she was always going to be pointed in the direction of wealth and social position. The fact that her main requirement in the divorce arrangements was that she continued to keep the title of 'Her Royal Highness', speaks volumes, to me at least. There are many anachronisms about The Royal Family but for me, that Title is the most outdated of all.
Not trying to "convince" anybody. Yes, she came from a privileged background, but that's hardly unique. But to get shoved into a relentless spotlight whilst in (what appears to have been) a relatively loveless marriage is not a barrel of laughs. I'm not making a social point, I'm making a human one...
Well, she could have left him, stayed out of the spotlight, and got a normal job like millions of normal lasses do. All this crap about the "good work" she did makes me puke. If I had **** all to do all day, and an enormous bank balance, I'd fit in some charity work too. IMO the French did the right thing with the Royal Family.
