The ban isn’t intended to stick, it’s a temporary measure for a month, whilst they presumably come up with an expansion on the rule around genuine market value.

For example, Newcastle’s shirt sponsor currently pays £6.5m p.a., will that value have increased if they went to market now? I’m sure it will have. Would it’s genuine value eclipse that of say Liverpool at £40m a year? No chance.

FFP has just developed into a device to help the four 'Big Six' sides who aren't supplemented by oil and Russian Mafia money to spend as little as possible. That's all it is, and at least I can say I've always been consistent in that view. Unsurprising that all of those four sides in question are primarily owned by Yanks - those that want to turn the Prem (and Europe, tbf) into version of US franchise sports, with set wage caps and nobody getting relegated.

Agree and agree. I've spent hours working out, through complicated recording and measuring processes, where I think we would be. I've been amending it into the early hours and am finally able to present my findings of where I think is a fair place for us in the sponsorship league:

    upload_2021-10-19_14-16-15.png

We're certainly below that £35m of Tottenham, i suspect our owners would try and push it with a £20m ballpark if they could.

Well they can kick and scream all they like because the Saudis are here and they'll just find a way.

I honestly had had enough of these big 6 clubs and I can't wait until one of them is finished by literally any of the clubs chasing them

Ultimately nufc is doing to be much better off. They've had **** all for sports direct advertising (same owner) and the clubs already making a profit..

Another CAT case hopefully I loved the last one. I found it very interesting

    LOL

They’ll get away with adding a good chunk to it, doubling the current value or maybe more, any narrowing of the rule will be around just stopping any attempt at blatant piss taking.

Someone at your club has got a runaway mouth imo. As for this to be done at the drop of a hat seems a bit random.

Listen, I haven't got a dog in this fight, but I have to ask, isn't the very takeover and the publicity of the Saudis not giving them a fivefold bigger exposure on the world market? Will that not be taken into account? There's no FFP restrictions on advertising yourself, are there? Wouldn't that be self-generating in a pitch to push up sponsorship?

This is only about sponsorship deals with linked companies i.e. those also owned or controlled by the owners of a club. e.g. Etihad and City. Clubs can do as they like driving up advertising revenues organically.

I'd be surprised if Ashley didn't pay sponsorship to himself as it would be tax deductable.

They'll just keep inventing new rules and they'll keep working around them.

    That's how it's done

Nada. Nothing in 2010-2016 at all:

    upload_2021-10-19_14-48-21.png

Then £385,000 in 2017, followed by claims that £1m were paid (in total for advertising other clubs were getting £5m-£15 million for) in 2018 and 2019 but these never actually showed up in NUFC accounts. He also paid nothing for renaming the stadium and claimed "it was to show he was open to selling off the naming rights".

As for merchandising (bearing in mind we're not exactly known for NOT wearing replica kits) he partitioned that off into a subsidiary of Sports Direct and channelled that money away from the club.

All the talk of "well he's just running it in a sustainable manner" narrative that's been nationally fed for over a decade is simply nonsense.

Just to show how silly and unbalanced these things are, we have Cinch.
They sponsor all four Scottish leagues and pay £1.6m a season for the privilege.
They also sponsor our left shirt sleeve for an estimated £10m per season! <laugh>
    Ludicrous difference.
