Preston v Leeds Utd

Tuesday 22nd October 2019 19.45 | Deepdale

Leeds travel to neighbouring Lancashire on Tuesday evening to play promotion rivals Preston at Deepdale.

The Lilywhites currently occupy the last play off place with 21 points, two less than Leeds. Preston have scored 23 goals; more than any other Championship team. Their downfall is their defence. They have conceded 13 times, almost double the number Leeds have relinquished.

Leeds will be looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Birmingham at the weekend, and currently occupy second place, two points behind the Baggies.

Although Leeds can't be criticised for their work rate. their natural game did not flow. They did not look like scoring until Harrison took advantage of a Birmingham playing slipping over, passing the ball to Philips who fired the ball past Camp.

Individually Bamford and Nketiah both drew blanks again. Is it time for Bielsa to sacrifice a midfielder and play both forwards together?

Good Morning to Matt Doc WJ Rik etc from a dull Bardsey
I expect a very tight game but one in which we have to show we are worthy league setters
I don't know if anyone injured but I wondered if Roberts will play as he scored 2 goals against them last season and by all accounts aquitted himself well on Sat
BY looking at the scores on Sat Forest getting beat at Wigan Bristol C losing 3-0 at Luton Swansea drawing at Barnsley Preston getting beat at Readingand Wed drawing at Cardiff shows how level the playing field is in this league

MOTD2 just made my night there. <applause>

They pointed out that not only were scum in 13th place, they were only 2 points above the relegation spots. <laugh><laugh><laugh>

If I was religious, I'd be down on my knees praying right now! :D
After watching that last night WJ, i have come to the conclusion that the presenter Mark Chapman is a tosser and a fkg Man U fan, but after saying that I don’t know who I dislike the most, scouse Victimpool or scumchester

Pablo out with hamstring issue!

Should we play one of our key players with u23's given age and recent injury issues?

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa confirmed he will start with the same side that beat Birmingham on Saturday, with Pablo Hernandez nursing a hamstring injury.

That means Patrick Bamford will keep his place in attack despite failing to score in his past seven appearances.

It is getting all too predictable with Marcelo giving the oppo a head start in naming the team in advance and persisting with the jaffa that is Bamford.

I will bow to those that go watch live and the consensus appears to be we look better and stronger with Bamford leading the line. My one caveat is that he always goes on long non-scoring runs so hopefully he'll get one soon as he then has streaks of scoring

Based on those that actually see live games I'm sure that Bamford's play is very good but when nobody else is showing signs of regularly scoring and he is shooting blanks we are always going to be up against it. Maybe I am putting too much faith in Eddie but as the Stranglers would say "Something Better Change". Ain't got time to wait.

Infogol expected goals stats.

pne xg 1.3 goals/match actual 1.9 goals/match
Leeds xg 2.1 goals/match actual 1.3 goals/match

In other words they have been taking a very high proportion of their chances and as is well documented, we haven’t.

I think Preston along with Bristol are probably in flattering league positions and although they have good home form, I fancy us for this one.

I think it means goals scored from chances that you are expected to score from.

Expected goals is a bit of an 'in' stat. Basically instead of just looking at, shots or shots on target, it uses an algorithm to assess how good the chance was. ie statistically players score say for example (i'm making these up) 80% of penalties, 1% of shots from 40 yards, 40% of cut backs into the 6 yard box etc. Apparently they have stats for thousands and thousands of goals and have a lot of different 'categories' of chance. Clearly it's just a stat, doesn't account for great defending, great keeping, how stretched the attacker was etc... but it does at least add a bit of science as a guide.

Preston's main striker has scored 7... when his expected is 4, bamford has scored 4 whan his expected is 6.5.

It's kind of a guide of individuals and teams efficiencies. Last year on xg norwich were ridiculously efficient and scored way more than 'expected' (thanks to pukki mainly). Leeds should have won the league comfortably. This year... same thing happening.

Just got to thinking. This time last season my confidence in the team was high, expecting to win virtually every game or even steamroll teams. This season I feel different, expecting every game to be a dour struggle. I just wonder are some or all the players in a similar frame of mind. Might explain the lack of fluidity in our performances. Confidence is a huge thing in sport. All the best golfers for example employ their own sports psychologists. Just a thought

Pukki fired Norwich to the title and promotion, a relative unknown. For us we have a potential goal machine, who doesn't start. Bamford has never been prolific. Goals win you games, goals get you promoted. So a Bamford brace tonight :1980_boogie_down:
