I said similar early season (though it was before we had a realistic chance). For me, the top two this season will have a very good chance of being competitive in the premier league, making our task of trying to survive the following season even more difficult. If we go up the following season, it is unlikely to be alongside established premier league teams who have had years in the top flight and (so far) one bad season. It would also mean we have an opportunity to make some of our loans more permanent, as well as giving a young team and manager an extra year to develop. Can’t see what’s weird about wanting the best it can be over a longer period? What is really weird is someone thinking it’s ‘‘weird some people somehow thinking we can pick and choose when to go up’, and yet it’s presumably ok to want the same for a season sooner.
Even then we'd come down with parachute payments vastly changing the FFP landscape for an owner who'd likely invest it into the team. I take your point though.
This topic of LR going or staying , personally I think if the ‘right’ job comes along he would be likely to take it . The point is jobs at clubs like ours with these owners are so few and far between . Minimum he needs to have money to spend , he needs to have the chance to create a playing style , a culture and what appears to be a very open relationship with supportive owners - I can se a couple of those boxes being ticked at a few clubs but honestly not the complete set he has now . If he thinks the same way then he’ll stay . BUT there’s nothing worse than turning down an opportunity and regretting it later .
There will be a managerial change around this summer once Ten Hag leaves Manchester United, Rosenior will be a contender at the back end of that shakedown - Brentford would be my guess, I think Brighton is a possibility but they would fish in a different pond.
Best game I recollect Greaves having for us, in spite of him scoring 2 goals against Huddersfield a few days earlier. Imperious on the day.
I was saying to another Aussie supporter who missed the game that I hoped someone put together a montage of his game because it was that good, but didn't think anyone would bother. Happy the club did.
-> What is really weird is someone thinking it’s ‘‘weird some people somehow thinking we can pick and choose when to go up’, and yet it’s presumably ok to want the same for a season sooner. Simple. You try to grab the opportunity while it's there, rather than hoping that it might be there in future seasons. As ST says, at worst you come back down with the riches & FFP implications of parachute payments (and hopefully use both much better than last time). -> Look at Coventry and their drop away after losing in the play off final, and Sunderland and Boro after making the semi finals. Compare that to the steady progression of a Luton for instance So, the inference is that the reason Coventry, Sunderland and Boro are not currently in the top 6 this season is because being in the play offs last season damaged them for this season. Really! If anything, what it emphasizes is the first point. -> We've already got people calling for LR to go, and I'm saying those same people (plus presumably some extra ones) who would call for him to go if we missed play offs. On here there's very few, if any, actually "calling for LR to go" (maybe one, with a handful who are apathetic and / or frustrated, but still wanting him to succeed). I shouldn't speak for others, but I suspect whether or not we make the playoffs makes little to no difference on our views on LR; it wouldn't to mine. If anything, your ongoing comments about certain others views on him just show that you are either not reading or else misunderstanding what certain of us have been saying about LR.
No need to wait till then. You're mistakenly saying "We've already got people calling for LR to go" and you seem to be repeatedly making a big thing of it. We haven't (bar one maybe). Just take in what posters are actually posting .... unless you really mean people on other forums / platforms, which might be a get out but isn't really so relevant to the ongoing discussions on here.
I'm taken with the more than a little irony of you accusing me of repeating something to talk it into reality when you do it regularly. Both on this board and Twitter plenty already want LR to go, you can pretend those people don't exist if you want. I'm also positive there will be more if we miss the play offs. Again, you can claim to the contrary and that's your prerogative.
Go on then....who on this board want LR to go? ( I can think of one if there serious ) If you're that confident....name them and let them reply Or is this another one of those times you think a lot but know absolutely sod all
I can name people and they'll claim they want him to succeed and then we'll lose a game and the same people will go through the same song and dance. I'm not really sure what you think asking me to name names will actually achieve other than (another) excuse to take a pot shot at me. Everyone knows who I'm talking about. I'll pm the list of names to someone, and if we don't make play offs I'll post that list with a time stamp and we'll see how closely it lines up with the calls for his head when the time comes.
I'm not on Twitter so I can't say anything about people's opinions on that platform. However, I don't think plenty of people on this board want LR to go. Getting into the play-offs isn't the be all and end all for me this season. I'd say it was a bonus. So long as we are seeing year on year progress that's fine by me. This time last year we were battling relegation so yes we have progressed since then. Our style of football might not please everyone - but it's a results business and our results have us in the top 6 after 3/4 of the season.
Who? There's one (and even that one might be a bit tongue in cheek / on a bit of a wind up) Name them or else stop banging on saying stuff that simply isn't true.
People know who they are. They will seek vindication & adulation (I was right all along) only when he’s gone. They’re not currently brave enough to commit to saying it & will therefore continue to hide behind half hearted sly digs.
