Someone famous from Boro who probably won't be at the game due to death

Newton Edward Daniels (6 April 1938 – 17 March 2016), known professionally as Paul Daniels, was an English magician and television presenter. He achieved international fame through his television series The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran on the BBC from 1979 to 1994.

Daniels was known for his catchphrase "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it!", and for his marriage to his assistant, Debbie McGee. He was awarded the "Magician of the Year" Award by the Academy of Magical Arts in 1982, the first magician from outside the United States to receive it. He also won the Golden Rose of Montreux in 1985. He was a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.[1] He has been described as "The Godfather of Magic" and has been repeatedly credited with inspiring many top professional magicians to start in the profession.[2][3][4][5][6]

Daniels was outspoken on matters including politics, current affairs, magic, entertainment, and fellow celebrities. Towards the end of his life he also appeared in reality television shows. He was described by former BBC executive Lord Grade upon his death as "a genius", "a brilliant showman" and a "pillar of Saturday Night for the BBC in their golden era of ratings".[7]

4000 Smoggies will descend on Deepdale for a game which means more to them thatn it does to us although we need a decent home performance to finish off the season after the mysterious disappearance in the defeat by the Plastics.
The game is likely to be the end of a few players time at Deepdale and these three will be hard to replace

Iversen has been outstanding all season apart from a slight blip at Luton, Sepp has performed at a decent standars all season although with most young players has had a dip in form but cannot fault his committment also has an ability to walk into train doors that didn't automaically open, QPR away journey home.
Archer he put the ball in the Blackpool net, still raw but has potential
Sepp defintely will not be back but the other two????

A lot of others are out of contract and expects some of those in contract to leave.
We have far too many midfielders in the squad, enough to fill about three sides although playing Johnson at wing back at Barnsley was interesting
Summer could be fun

 

Let's hope the squad have decided to fold their deck chairs back up and put in a shift on Saturday.

 

PNE Team News

There's been a welcome return to training for Ryan Ledson this week at Euxton, and the midfielder could play for the first time since February after recovering from his knee operation.

Andrew Hughes and Mikey O'Neill are doubts for the weekend, with both struggling with foot injuries, while Ched Evans has returned to training.

Paul Huntington could get his first minutes of the season on Saturday as he says farewell to Preston North End after ten years at the club.

Middlesbrough arrive at Deepdale on Saturday still in with a chance of making the Play-Offs, sitting just two points behind fifth and sixth place.

That means they are reliant on results elsewhere going in their favour – and they need a victory themselves – but Chris Wilder, with experience of achieving promotion from the Championship with Sheffield United, will be hoping his side can do enough.

Wilder took over in November 2021 and helped turn Boro’s fortunes around, with the North Yorkshire side looking to reach the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Tim Robinson will referee his fourth North End game of the season this weekend.

PNE have won, drawn and lost with Robinson as the main official this term, with the most recent outing being the 1-0 victory away to Peterborough United in February.

Robinson has taken charge of 36 fixtures this campaign, showing 156 yellow cards and six reds.

PNE were enjoying the early chances of the game, with Riis having the first meaningful attempt of the afternoon, but his deflected effort was tipped over the bar by Luke Daniels.

Browne came close on 20 minutes, seeing a left-footed shot go just wide, but he did get on the scoresheet soon after, as he controlled Potts’ cross and volleyed home into the far corner.

North End thought they’d made it two on 34 minutes when Daniel Johnson’s corner went straight into the back of the net, however the referee awarded a foul on goalkeeper Daniels.

Just a minute later, though, PNE did extend their advantage, as Riis did well to beat two men before sending the ball into the area, and a deflection from Fry sent it over the top of the diving ‘keeper.

The Lilywhites could have had a third before half-time, with both Ali McCann and Daniel Johnson coming close, but it was the visitors with the next goal of the game, as Tavernier met Dijksteel’s cross at the far post to head home.

North End soon restored their two-goal advantage, though, as five minutes later Archer found strike partner Riis and the Dane chipped the ball delightfully over Daniels for his second of the afternoon.

His fellow countryman Daniel Iversen was called into the action at the other end, getting his fingertips to Duncan Watmore’s flicked header, before then having to keep out a powerful strike from substitute Folarin Balogun.

Daniels then had to produce a top save of his own on 72 minutes, scurrying to his right-hand post to deny Ben Whiteman’s free-kick.

The goalkeeper was left helpless though when Riis tucked away a penalty a few minutes later for his hat-trick, after Archer had seen his shot blocked on the line by the hand of McNair, who resultantly saw red.

There was then a lovely moment on 80 minutes, as Deepdale rose to its feet when Paul Huntington came on to make his 306th and final appearance for the football club.

Liam Lindsay and Ali McCann came close to scoring before the end, while Huntington headed just over himself, as he captained the team to a 4-1 victory.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe:

"That's probably the best performance we've had all season.

"It was everything we asked for. If any game plans go to plan, that was it.

"With two wins, we've finished the season on a high and that can lead us into a tough summer, which we know is going to be tough in terms of recruitment and everything else.

"I've challenged them over the last week or so and there are one or two - I won't name names - who I've said, 'Look, come on, I need more otherwise it's a case of you'll be replaced.'

"This is people who are under contract so they're giving us it and I want that continuing for next season."

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Tees:

"The performance wasn't good enough. We didn't do well enough in both boxes and we had a man sent off so everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.

"They came out and dominated the game and we were never close to getting any sort of result. We were when Tav (Marcus Tavernier) got us back into the game, but then we made two or three really poor mistakes after that.

"The players have turned the season around from going nowhere. We have had a terrific cup run, some great days and I want to bring more great days back to the football club."
