Gardos often goes quietly under the radar at Saints, but I really like his capabilities. He's featured in several of the best results Saints have achieved since his time here.
It's a very rare era that Saints have 4 very capable CBs in the squad. It's often been the case where we've only had one or two half decent CBs at best.

I guess it depends on how Puel views him. He has been a striker his entire career until Pochettino played him out wide, very successfully in fairness. Puel may prefer him through the middle. But yeah, I would like another striker to be safe.

That entire career wasn't that long as he signed for us at 22, but I know what you mean. Adkins also played him wide and not down the middle, so one could say he has played wide his entire top flight career.

Prior to he injury though, I had been saying for a long time that I saw his future back down the middle. We'll just have to wait and see what happens with that knee :(

Anyone know who the young tall black guy is who has been in some of the training videos?
He is best seen in the lunch queue behind Redmond along with Olamola?

I must admit I am slightly worried about Austin and Rodriguez. No concern with their abilities (assuming injuries haven't changed that) but I am worried about havingredients two extremely injury prone players in the same/similar position. Say we do get rid of Pelle and replace him with another striker. You'd think 4 strikers is more than enough, especially if we use a system with just one. But with those two so at risk of injury it may turn out not to be enough. Not sure it was wise to buy Austin when we already have doubts over Jay, although for £4m I can see why it wasnt such a risk.

I wouldn't necessarily say Jay is "extremely injury prone" - he's had one major injury (and associated healing problem) but that's it. But whether his knee makes him "injury prone" going forwards is another question - let's hope it doesn't with a good pre-season etc!

On the other hand I think Austin has probably had many more but again press have exaggerated it a bit with David Sullivan etc

As soon as I see his beautiful face, "We've got van Dijk, Virgil can Dijk, just don't think you understand" starts endlessly looping in my head
