Well at least we have some cover now. Unfortunately none of the signings would probably get much game time for other sides. We are really putting a lot of faith in NW somehow being able to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Fingers crossed. It may be a bumpy ride
Some decent business. Is it enough. Probably not. We are clearly thinking long term and if we do drop we should be strong enough to challenge again.
Dust has settled, no striker but two quality midfielders in - in all honesty, that could be just what we really needed. I've got no idea of how NW will set up for the first game without Arter, but maybe, just maybe the two new midfield additions will provide the service for a previously very blunt attacking force. There is no doubt Messrs. Zohore, Reid, Hoilett, Murphy Ward and even Madine have goals in them but we've lacked a decent supply route in the past. Let's face it, we've been woefully short in the midfield creative stakes for years now. Getting on the end of things and finishing is the final act, but we've hardly excelled in creating those chances from midfield - usually the likes of Hoilett and Mendez have had to do it themselves. All in all, I'll take two quality midfield players right now in preference to a new striker who probably wouldn't get the service from what we had anyway.
The additions in the centre of the park give us more balance to the squad and team. If they can deliver their defensive duties, their play making will only add to our performances. We should see more going forward than we otherwise would.
Glass half empty then Hilts? One question you have to ask yourself is following the window closing which 3 teams look most vulnerable?
Well according to Robbie Savage on his programme on 5 Live this morning it's Watford, Huddersfield and Cardiff
It worries me that Warnock thinks that a player who 'has something to prove' is a good thing (He's said that about nearly all our new signings). Surely if he's got something to prove it means he hasn't been playing well enough to play regularly!!!
Right, the preparation is over and its time to get things started. I'm sure Colin will have everyone as ready as they can be. By 5 ish we'll have a clearer picture of where we're at.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock says the club are not "throwing money away" in the transfer market so "if things don't go right it's not going to bankrupt the club in 12 months". (Guardian)
Cardiff City’s 25-man Premier League squad Goalkeepers (3) Neil Etheridge, Alex Smithies, Brian Murphy. Defenders (8) Lee Peltier, Joe Bennett, Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba, Bruno Ecuele-Manga, Jazz Richards, Matthew Connolly, Greg Cunningham. Midfielders (10) Joe Ralls, Aron Gunnarsson, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Loic Damour, Junior Hoilett, Victor Camarasa, Harry Arter, Josh Murphy, Callum Paterson, Kadeem Harris. Forwards (4) Bobby Reid, Kenneth Zohore, Gary Madine, Danny Ward.
Probably down to a choice between Kadeem and Healey. Tough on Healey after his pre season scoring. Should get a 1st or 2nd division loan without difficulty.
Thanks to West Ham who were absolutely awful. I know it's a marathon not a sprint but falling flat on your face out of the starting blocks doesn't help.
