Ok, half way (ish) through the transfer window with preseason under way, so a mid term review. Promotion squad retention. 9 out of 10 - a little more attention to specific areas would see full marks, still time for the perfect 10 though sentiment mustn't get in the way of decision making. Some times it's better to let things go. New additions. 8 out of 10 - key positions strengthened at reasonable cost. Hungry players signed which offsets the lack of prem experience though some experience is evident. Early signings a big advantage to integrate with the existing squad. Time left for further enhancements. Another 10 possible though budgets may limit this to a 9. Trimming the squad - 4 out of 10. A number of contracts ending together with returning loanees are the only contributions which prevent this being a zero. Significant room for improvement in the coming weeks though time is short. Must try harder. (See me in my office!!) Debt reduction - 9 out of 10 On track to achieve the debt free target of 2020. A bigger step taken this term than anticipated. Excellent achievements in this area, above what was expected. Real commitment shown. Book balancing - 8 out of 10 FFP green light so no worries there. Spend this window significant but within budget with no evidence of disproportionate salaries, a big improvement on previous years. Less than optimal signings in two cases in the 17-18 season prevent this being a higher score, but specific exits as in 'trimming the squad' could see 'double bubble' benefits. Kit colour 10 out of 10 The errors of previous seasons have been avoided with blue very much to the fore. An improved away kit gets the thumbs up with no sign of ****ing horrible lime green in evidence. Provided the last point is maintained, there will be little chance of the perfect 10 being lost. In summary, a good summer's work by young Colin and the bluebirds hierarchy. With a few bits of attention to detail there is still room for improvement though concentration must be kept to ensure no standards are dropped.
https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/2018/july/pre-season-update-new-bluebirds-contracts/ Lots of news here! Gunner has verbally committed to another year...
Brian Murphy is surely right down the pecking order now. Glad to see some of the lads dedicating themselves to the future.
Connolly, wow. A bit of a surprise that one. Long term deals for quite a few including NML. Good news.
Can see Connolly going out on loan to be honest. I'm glad we've retained everyone (so far). Shows that we are currently a team where people want to stay. It's nice to have that feeling for once. Keeps the team spirit up!
Staggering really. He’s just not good enough at PL level let alone the championship. NW says he’s happy with his defence. Really? Peltier as first choice RB? If Richards’ fitness could be sorted then he’d be ok but for me a quicker and better RB than Peltier is essential. If they play 3 at the back City will get slaughtered. Manga for me is too error prone and at RB he is useless. Want to see some additions to the defence.
I was surprised but happy to see Connolly getting a new contract. Never lets us down a good solid pro. Well liked by the other players and great on the training pitch.
Talk on The Transfer Tavern is that we should look to sign Bony from Swansea for £9m and that a number of our fans support this. I bloody hope not and this forum is just blowing hot air out of it's fundamental orifice.
not having a dislike button is evident again. Know its not you advocating this blue. A definite NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO from me. £90k a week is a non starter. Even half that would be an overspend. Don't see him being a Warnock type of player. Certainly doesn't fit the 'young, hungry' mould.
He's not worth it, his attitude sucks and is living on past glories. He also went to the jack's TWICE!
The article is sh!t. Warnock wouldnt take Bony on a free. Swansea have no one left who would improve our team.
Not exactly headline stuff, but another name in the frame - "one for the future"? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...academy-goalkeeper-Matt-Hall-Bangor-City.html
It's still news Sparkey, a part of the longer term vision. Not something we've had for a while. A nice balance of experienced and younger players on long term contracts with a few young guns coming through. Haven't produced any youngsters for a while. Need to get the academy firing with one or two a year making the senior squad. What happened to Mark Harris? Seems to have faded into the background.
Gunnarsson has signed a new contract. Anyone reckon city need another body in CM given his injury record plus his ability to perform at PL level. I do.
