Playing on the counter away from home is fine which is why last season their away form was really good. However, at home when you have to take the game to the team visiting it's a different story as teams that come to you mostly will be happy for a draw.

As soon as Villa go one goal down they find it hard to recover as they are setup to play on the counter. Benteke is a big miss though so he may help. Interesting!

Surely if he was that good he'd have at least a plan B, let alone plans C,D and E. He's won just 31% of his games at Villa, overseen the biggest defeat in the club's history and doesn't appear to be making any real progress at all either in results or style of play.

I can't see the Villa fans staying happy for too long if they carry on the way they have in the past few games

Think he is a good motivator but lacks either the knowledge or the players to have to many plans.....
 
The bottom 5 look to be the ones to fight over the three places. I thought Leicester might have done a bit better to be honest but Burnley look very short and it could be a very long season for them. It also proves what a waste the miracle of Sunderland was last season because they look awful again. QPR and Leicester are not good at all and with Villa that is the group of trouble. I really cannot see anybody else taking a spot and that bit of extra experience of the division may save Palace.
 
By this stage of the season I think goal difference is a fairly reliable indicator. That would suggest that Villa, Sunderland, QPR and Burnley are the sides in trouble. Pa;ace and Leicester could also come into it, but I'd take the first four as most likely at the moment.
 
Villa have shown how much of a fluke those first 3 wins were. Since then they have been nothing short of dreadful and they managed to make QPR look like a good team! Burnley seem like they're just happy to be there for the most part, though now Ings is back they might show a little more fight up front. I think Leicester will be strong enough through the season to keep out of the drop zone. At this stage I would say it's between QPR, Villa, Burnley and Sunderland for those bottom 3 spots.
 
Does anyone miss not being part of this thread. To be honest, I am preferring our season in the Championship this year and genuinely feel for teams like Burnley, that could have been us!
 
Not exactly "Miss" it,but I take your point.Being winless into November isn't fun and they go to Arsenal today.And my guess is tat it might be a high points total for survival this year with only the three relegation spots failing to make a point a game.

I reckon that Burnley would need 10 wins from here to be safe and I would struggle to give them more than four unless something radical happens. QPR and one from Villa, Sunderland and Leicester would be my guess.
 
I agree regarding Burnley.Into November without a win isnt a good sign.The third promoted side now hovering just above the drop zone.
 
I must say I prefer being able to look forward to games now, but I do think that if we can win promotion, we'd go back now with a solid and experienced team which would have a reasonable chance of survival as a few PL quality additions would be enough for this squad.

There's a lot of dross at the bottom of the Premier League at the moment, and compared to our last promotion, our squad and financial position look a lot stronger.

I do agree but had we stayed up, where do you think we would have been? My guess is pretty much where Palace are now and then you are constantly looking over your shoulder and worrying where your next points are going to come from. This year is a relief in many ways but that is not to say that it is a given, far from it!

Even if we were in the Prem for 5-10 years, I don't think we'd progress much beyond 10th-17th, we'd have certainly spent this season flirting with relegation. The nature of the beast unfortunately, but it might give us the opportunity to expand Carrow Road, and make other improvements that would make any subsequent dips into the championship easier.

Sad but true, there is a definite glass ceiling and 10th is about right.
 
Well! All 3 promoted teams now occupy the bottom 3 places in the PL, following Sunderland's win at palace tonight.

Good to see that Neil Warnock is still weaving his magic at this level, and Palace, as with Leicester, are now right in the mire after a decent start to the season.
 
The table doesn't lie - getting promoted to the Premiership - fearsome in itself - is probably easier than staying there.

With the money getting thrown around at the top level I can only seeing the gulf becoming greater.

Makes me wonder about NCFC's chances if we did get promoted. The defence would petrify me. Olssen has slipped back ('done a Bassong'), Whitaker is a liability even at Championship level, I don't buy Martin at CB and most of the rest are barely tested even at Championship level.

We are a very long way from where I think we would need to be.
