If he plays bold, attacking football, he will probably win most over HOWEVER, if he plays the type of football as suggested by the Barnsley fan in Redprint's post 8,

"he played 1 up top while instructing the midfield & defence to run and pass it around like crabs"

(the latter reminds me a lot of what he used to do here), he will be in big trouble and, very quickly....

I liked LJ as a player, loved his Dad,so i really hope it works out for him.
But i don't rate SL and in his speel for tomorrows post he still aiming for the prem.
SL please stop saying this,it is just pye in the sky,the club had the momentium to go on again after last year, but that was washed down the drain before a ball was kicked.
We were promised a top manager, however we get a rookie that had been in the job five minutes.
I really really hope LJ pulls this out the bag,but Ashton Gate is so hostile if it goes belly up.

I think you misread what I said, I was saying DON'T leave this board just because of the boards decision to appoint LJ.

I will support any manager that comes here until they prove that they can't do the job, and I have no axe to grind with LJ as a player or a Manager. What sort of football we'll get is another matter reading what the Barnsley fan said, which was quite concerning....

But my opinion of the owner and the henchmen around him can't get any lower.

Couldn't be asked to look at the EP site last night, this is comical....

Premier league clubs wanted LJ on their coaching staff - as 3rd or 4th coach maybe, I wouldn't have begrudged him the job as number 2 coach under Pembo perhaps under a proper MANAGER maybe but, in charge of this club....?!

    Get a grip...

ROD, thanks mate - I am giving it some thought

    Mark Ashton
What is that all about ?
Is he someone from Lansdown's yatch club, or the new manager ?
He comes across like a club owner. How does Lansdown expect us to take the club seriously with rent-an-adminidiot pontificating like The Mouthpiece of Tash ?

You really have to get a grip SL. Hiring extra admin nonsense and yes men coaches WILL NOT put us in any league you would want to be associated with

Its all about making small gains to reach the prem. We will never be able to buy our way out this league as so many people believe. Whilst Lj isn't perfect, I believe that under him we'll start to build a squad which over time could challenge for promotion.

Mark my words, if we have a run like SC took us through before he was sacked then there are enough LJ haters in the crowd to see him ousted a lot quicker than SC was.

Lansdown and co wont ignore any managerial opposition for long.

I agree and thats because the sentiment from last season kept Cotterell in his job for 2 months longer than he would've had without it

I don't understand how anybody can talk seriously about the Premiership when we are barely in the Championship!

Lets concentrate on staying in THIS league first!

Wasn't a lot we could have done about it anyway JGF2....and it's the same with LJ.

Regardless of what Oldham or Barnsley fans think, he's our new Manager whether we like it or not.

Having a long-term ambition to reach the Premiership is a good one to have, but throwing cash at players/managers isn't likely to be a successful way of doing it - there are dozens of teams in the Championship that are much bigger and have more money to spend than us, so expecting us to get promoted ahead of them by doing the same as them is unrealistic. If we want to over-achieve (I believe our standing makes mere survival in the Championship our 'par'), then we need to be canny in developing the squad, which may well involve taking a punt here and there, or paying a bit more on a talented youngster in the lower leagues, before they've made a name for themselves and seen their value rocket.

I think our role models should be the likes of Burnley, Brighton and Swansea. A lot of people seem to have unrealistic expectations of how far their club can go thanks to Bournemouth's success, but their 'fairytale' has been bankrolled by a Russian billionaire. Without trying to be judgemental or pessimistic, I wouldn't be surprised at all if in 5 years time they're back in League One.

I am highly sceptical that LJ will be a success - it's one of those appointments where you can only judge retrospectively. Of course he'll have my full backing (as a player, I was much more a LJ fan than critic, so no baggage there), but in such a competitive league I'm concerned that a lack of experience might be telling when history dictates that that's exactly what you need when in a relegation battle.

As for SL, I don't have much to add to other posts that I made. It seems like there's a growing number of people on here that have him in their sights. I suppose I'll just say, if you criticise him for sacking SC without having someone new lined up already (although how treacherous would that have been?), then why don't you suggest who you'd like to see replace him? I was sad to see SC go after such a spectacular season, but his apparent blind-spot to reorganising our defence probably made it necessary.

Personally, I'd like to see Angelicnumber16 be given a pot of money and take the job - apparently it's all so obvious and easy, he'd have us in the Premiership inside two seasons. :) (Gentle banter)

Pass me the money and I'll happily give it a go

One thing I would promise is that you would get experienced football people making wise and informed decisions on the club and not this knee jerk stuff we have to endure year after year along with the rubbish being spouted that accompanies it.

    So where do I sign ? <laugh>

I bet most of us would of taken Sean Dyche as a manager ? But up until he went to Burnley he only had one years experience albeit cut short by the Italians.
And he didn't turn out too bad for Burnley on probably less of a budget than we have. I wonder if they started 101 threads saying how **** is the board etc.
Some managers fail some succeed, but if LJ didn't come here but went onto another championship club and got them promoted we would all be saying why didn't we go for him when we had the chance.
Unfortunately we can't tell the future so we all have to go on a gamble, even in out position Pearson would of been a gamble.
Is LJ my choice **** me no he didn't even make the cut on my list, but he's here now and I've no choice but to support him because as far as I'm concerned no matter how **** or successful he becomes he won't outlive (fingers crossed) my support for the club.

Who is the script writer for Steve Lansdown, because I'll tell you what he's a very funny man? The time to put his words in to action were when the last Johnson almost took us to the promised land, and then for some inexplicable reason we sat back on our duff thinking that we had enough fire power on board to take us back there the following season and believe it or not we were wrong. Predictably predictable.

In the summer of 2008 we broke our transfer record to sign Nicky Maynard - I'd suggest he was an upgrade on the strikers we had at the time (sorry Enoch).
