Fulham fans = plums. A bunch of hooray Henry's. A nice ground to visit though with an away pub staffed by attractive young ladies, a walk through the park by the side of the Thames and one of the best burgers, in my humble experience, sold in the park. Horrible, officious in ground stewards as a negative.
I remember going there some years back (must have been around 1986/87 I'd guess) when the away end was an open, somewhat structurally unsound raised terrace. If memory serves me correctly, our coach was having difficulty getting around a tight corner just a way from the ground due to cars being parked on all sides.... a bunch of lads told the driver it was no issue, they'd help clear the way. They hopped off the coach and promptly started trying to "bounce" one of the parked cars onto the pavement to create a turning point for the coach. Cue a rather exasperated bloke coming hurtling out of the nearby flats shouting "It's okay, I'll move it now!" . I think we lost the game 2-0 and Paul Wheeler had a nightmare up front for us... Good, fun, innocent times.
Went to Fulham in spring 1980.Arrived in warm sunshine but game was called off as pitch had become waterlogged with a freak storm - in April! Slow trudge back to Paddington Went back for the re-arranged game but lost - think Gordon Davies got their winner.
Well after tonight's home defeat by Wolves it looks more and more like the Cottagers will drop through the trap door.
With Newcastle winning again, can anyone see past us playing Fulham & WBA next season? Will need a big points swing otherwise.
