Haha, the cup replay at Sid James's was pretty good too on a Tuesday night. Good atmosphere from City fans, 1,000 of them singing 'Phil Brown's Black and Amber Army' all game.
I'd say the Premiership, I actually care about some of the teams in that division so it makes the matches feel more worthwhile. Obviously the major reason I go is to see Leeds not the opposition, but it adds an extra excitement when you're playing similar sized opposition rather than washed up minnows with plastic stadia.
you managed to get a ticket then? some couldnt afford/or get tickets for many away games in the prem. personally i prefer football and the sooner the top 6 bugger off to a full time euro league, the better for all of us
"......washed up minnows with plastic stadia....." such as Wigan, Blackburn, Blackpool, Birmingham, West Brom, Bolton, Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and Wolves you mean?
I don't understand why everyone is raving about the Championship promotion SEASON. Up to January it wasn't that great at all and looked like being a midtable obscurity job. The January transfer window looked like us clearing the decks of players (Delaney, Livermore, etc being replaced by a couple of loanees just because we had offers then) ready to make a push the following season. Obviously Wmebley and the back end of the season when we were going for the auto spots takes some beating, but the season as a whole wasn't that great an experiance. I'd go with the Championship being a better division to be in though. You turn up at games, see the team and have no idea what the result will be. You know there's only likely to be one or two goals, but you don't know who'll score them and that's the case every week. In the PL the 45Garcia/45Fagan system just took away all interest for me because you immediately knew a defeat was pretty much inevitable whenever you saw we were playing it and we played it far too often. In fact that's probably still affecting the crowd now, we've had our enthusiasm destroyed by it and we've hardly been offered anything to restore it yet. In my case it doesn't help that it was my mum's birthday for the opening day and then until Ipswich we only scored midweek when I couldn't travel.
Surprised how many people prefer the Championship. This is our 4th season in the Championship and for the most part it has been pretty dull from a spectacle point of view, obviously the run-in 2008 was fantastic but otherwise cant remember too much to get the fans excited. How many good/exciting games can you remember? I'm talking about end to end spectacles with dozens of shots and goals/incidents. I remember Sheff U away 2006 which we lost 3-2 was a cracking game, any others?
Wasn't Burnley at home in the promotion season 2-2 with 4 red cards... or was it just two? Any way that was a good game.
It was four reds(Folan, Okocha, Caldwell and Gudjonsson), I'm not sure it was a good game, but it was certainly a bit bonkers.
I'd say that out of those, Wigan is the only club in that category, maybe Bolton. Blackburn = traditional stadium Blackpool = minnows, but same as above Birmingham = good ground, not plastic West Brom = see above Bolton = strong history though they are pretty plastic these days Sunderland = boring stadium but big club Fulham = fantastic stadium, though a pretty small club historically Stoke = decent history, decent club, OK atmosphere for a modern stadium Wolves = historically strong, nice stadium too Look at the Championship, on the other hand, and you'll see what I mean.
To say that Stoke have an 'okay' atmosphere is an huge understatement. Each and every one of their fans sing, they are the loudest and proudest fans in the country and we should all take a leaf out of their books.
(re Stoke) Do they buggery all sing, for English fans they have a good atmosphere but compare them with foreign football supporters and "OK" is about right. Not that their away numbers amount to much, anyway that's beside the point, they aren't a small club even if their stadium is a bit plastic.
The atmosphere in was better in the premiership, because there was less expectation, whether we were winning, drawing or losing, the fans always got behind the team. Having said that, i do love the derbies we have in the championship
