You get the feeling that only Sunderland can save Newcastle.

(Although it shouldn't be forgotten that Newcastle do get Cisse back after this game)

Mike Dean continues to be pretty much the only PL referee who happily gives penalties at corners, rather than letting defenders get away with murder each week.
Good for him. Others need to take heed. Some of the stuff that goes on in the box from dead ball play is assult with criminal intent.

The crazy thing is that there was absolutely no need for Rivière to push the guy over, he was going nowhere. Completely stupid defending, in line with Newcastle's whole approach to this game.

It scared me to see the papers linking us to Janmaat the other week. Today is just one example of why. The guy cannot defend. He'd be a poor replacement for Clyne.

Thankfully, I've put it down to the media just being lazy and jumping on the dutch thing.

Riviere is the worse striker I have seen in the Prem

So Carver said one of his players tried getting sent off on purpose.

The Newcastle players clearly don't give a damn, but it's remarkable that Carver is still there. They seemed virtually assured of survival when he took over...ninth place, on 26 points heading into the new year. They have two wins, three draws and eleven losses under him, with a -18 GD.

Turns out this day can get worse for Newcastle. (Not that I'm surprised to see Villa and Sunderland both currently getting something)

Watching Liverpool v QPR in a hotel room in Madrid (sad loser that I am). Great to see Rickie getting a start and a great assist for the first goal. Perhaps Brenda might realize that he should have started more often instead of "Super Mario"?

Turns out that Alan Pardew was pretty good after all.
