Upside of City falling apart: keeps our slim hopes of the top four alive.
Downside of City falling apart: keeps Liverpool's arguably better hopes of the top four alive.

Only one City player has tried this game.

    Aguero.

I don't give Liverpool a chance of catching City, let alone us.

But clearly, yes if you offered me the chance now to go into that last two points City, of course I would accept it (regardless of where Liverpool are). But I just don't see in a million years that we will get that close to City (or better) going into that game.

They are shocking away right now, but they've still walked all over WBA and Newcastle at home. And I can absolutely see them doing it to West Ham and Villa. (That Burnley draw you mentioned was over three months ago!)

All those Man U fans traveling back home to Exeter and Surrey will be in high spirits this evening.

Anyone can walk over Newcastle at the moment. Sunderland beat them for gods sake! WBA were down to 10 men after 2 minutes. Benteke is on fire at the moment and I fancy his chances against City's defence.

That said, Joe Hart and Sergio Aguero both getting straight reds in these final 10 mins might change my view somewhat!

I'd also fancy City's chances against Villa's defense, though.

Would have fancied Kane, look what happened yesterday. You just never know. City are also going to be demoralised after today.

Damn, United to win 4-2 was 22/1 at HT.

Had the West Ham and Villa games been the other way around, I would be slightly more accepting of your view Tom.

But West Ham have nothing to play for. They've hardly picked up a point in weeks, and can spend the rest of this season on holiday. Plus Sam knows that he probably wont be there next season.

It's an open goal for City to pick up three points, and no doubt score a few in the process.

At the same time, Villa might well have an FA Cup SF loss to try and deal with. Both clubs could be feeling very different when they meet each other, compared to their positions today.

And there's also Liverpool to contend with, who finish the year with Newcastle, West Brom, Hull, QPR, Chelsea, Palace and Stoke. Assuming they win tomorrow, we probably need 9-10 points from our next five, and to win at the Etihad, with City absolutely imploding...given that we haven't been in dominant form, that's quite an ask.

Just noticed that the pundits are pointing out that Man City looked an uninterested team having just scored at 4-2 with around 5 minutes to go. I thought exactly the same. They looked as if they knew they were beaten. ManU were down to 10 players at the time. You'd have thought they would have had a go.

Hooray. Well said Gary Neville. Talking about the merits and demerits of FFP, he came out and said we want teams from below to come up and challenge. We don't want the Real Madrid/Barcelona, Celtic/Rangers, etc... situation. We want competition.

Helleluja. At least one respected pundit agrees with me.

Heavens! Could our last game of the season at City be a decider for 4th place? Too much stress!!!!

It's a fair point. It's probably unlikely, but Saints could have a real measure of direct control over whether they finish above ManC.

What a difference one weekend makes. all of a sudden we're looking upwards again, and what do we see? City starting to slide. It's not possible...is it?

As for Liverpool, surely the prospect of finishing above them (and spurs) is sufficient motivation to try and win every game.

Best not get too carried away though, we actually struggled yesterday. Until JWP came on anyway.

There is a possible dull thud in this scenario though, and that is despite beating ManC, Liverpool pip us for 4th place.

Now scrub that thought, look at the run-ins again and hope that Liverpool trip up and we have the necessary points to make a season ending win count for everything. :)

But we'll get to that when we get to it.
