Putting feelings towards Liverpool to one-side, what is the general view as to who would be our preferred victor here (if the game were not to finish a draw)?

Last time out, my feeling was absolutely that a Utd win was better for us than a Liverpool win. But here, I'm not sure.

A defeat for Liverpool pretty much ends their top four hopes (assuming that Man Utd win at home to Villa later, can you really see Liverpool - or anyone for that matter - closing an eight point gap?), but at the same time would pretty much guarantee Arsenal a top four place (at worst, they would finish the weekend seven points clear of 5th - and with a very difficult game for them now crossed off the list).

A defeat for Arsenal gives us (and Spurs) the chance to drag them back into our sights. Given that they have an empty PL weekend coming up (due to FA Cup action), plus a game vs Chelsea, us cutting their lead down to four points today would give us a real chance of catching them over the coming month. But it would also very much keep Liverpool on the top four hunt. Is that too big a price to pay to keep two top four places up for grabs? Or is it better to cut them both out, as above, and put all our eggs (and Spurs') in a Man Utd shaped basket?

(All this said, us beating Everton later is no given. I'm not particularly confident, but neither am I writing it off).

Have to laugh at that pass from Markovic. £20-odd million?

Well Arsenal will finish in top four anyway, that much is certain. So Liverpool losing is better for us.

Another dimension to the puzzle is that if we win today and Citeh come unstuck at Palace on Monday we would only be 5 points behind them.

That has been my view all season. It's why I wanted them to beat Spurs the other week, even though quite a few people on here said that Spurs winning that was an alright result for us.

But I can't help but feel that the door opens ajar if Arsenal lose and we win today. Plus, I'm not sure how comfortable I am at accepting just chasing one spot.

But then on the other hand, I remind myself that in all honestly Arsenal will get top four, as I've said all season, regardless of what happens today. And knocking Liverpool out of the race would be very, very handy. Indeed, it's also a result that would greatly help us, were we to slip up late today.

    LOVELY GOAL!

    Arsenal 1-0.

I am happy for Arsenal to win as I want to finish above Liverpool and Spurs...we are not going to finish higher than 5th.

We dropped a fair share of point this calendar year, we should be happy to have at least one spot to chase.

But looking at current form, Man City looks like a team ripe for dropping point all over. So it's them and United, two spots. :D
