I never actually/saw anyone in the media use those exact words. To me, they all seemed to choose their words very carefully - implying that City were their nearest challengers, but without explicitly saying that they were.
Feels good, doesn't it? Shame is that I've left work, so can't rub the nose of a United fan in it. He was always telling me how they relegated us years after the event...

Yes, I nearly spurted coffee when I heard that yesterday. I really should keep well away from imbibing any liquids when encountering the football media.

Y'see, I don't think so. Most of any audience is actually non-top4 football clubs. Whatever their national support, they are easily out numbered by those who don't support them.
Best result for us I think is a City win, we aren't going to be challenging for the title and have a small chance of top 4, hopefully City and Chelsea win majority of games and the likes of Liverpool, United, Spurs and Everton keep faultering.
If you're referring to the interview with Jose they did, then yeah I do recall them saying to Jose that Chelsea were now nine points clear of City. (I think that was the interview where it was phrased, "you are, for example, nine points head of Man City").
And factually that was correct. At that point they had moved nine points clear of City.
But it's possible that you're referring to something else which the BBC have said or written.
Would have liked to keep it so that City couldn't jump over us with one win...but as Saintmagic says, we don't know how the season will pan out. A United loss could be the best result. The best we can do is keep winning

BBC 5 Live Sports News at 6:30pm yesterday said: "Chelsea extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 9 points." Factually incorrect, and that is the BBC, not some tinpot news network run by an Australian bandit.
It isn't just us that have noticed. Chap on Sunday Supplement on Sky remarked that journalists were overlooking Saints when they kept referring to the distance between Chelsea and City.
I'm assuming you are talking about the fact that if it was a draw then City and Utd both technically dropped 2 points? In which case I still disagree as I think the best scenario for us is United getting 0 points rather than 1
