Reportedly as harmful as being a heavy smoker. Clubs may not like you smoking at all, but can't see you being suspended for it....perhaps there is more to it?

That's what I'm thinking....seems a bit extreme to say the least, and not sure you can tell people what to do on a holiday that you have authorised.

"Right lads, as we've been so **** this year, you can have a little break cos none of ya are good enough to play for your countries. But don't forget, we've been terrible this year, so no drinking, no smoking and last of all, NO HAVING ANY FUN!!"

So? It's not illegal is it? Plenty of professional athletes smoke and unless it's written into his contract I don't see how they can suspend him for it.

And if caught smoking they are fined or suspended. It is deemed to be a harmful substances. You kind of need good lungs to be a footballer....

The only reason Wilshere only gets fined is because he never plays anyways....

So you're saying it IS written into every players contract? Not sure about that... and I doubt all footballers get fined for it.

I just think it's ridiculous that we get all this bollocks now, he was on holiday which the club authorised. In my eyes he can do (within the law) whatever he wants. Same as when everyone was going made about players taking laughing gas, so ****ing what? It's their body and it's upto them. I await the player getting suspended for being pictured with a pint <ok>

As for your last sentence there's a certain man who is Englands all time goal scorer and will probably become this countrys biggest clubs all time top scorer as well, he's a smoker.

Different clubs react differently. If it was down to me I would ban it completely. At the end of the day, clubs are buying a player. They want that player to be at peak fitness. Smoking isn't a good way of going about it.

I understand that, and if it is written into his contract then he can't really have complaints. I just think it's a bit of a dangerous precedent in a way, what next? No players are allowed to drink on their time off?

Drinking isn't seen as bad as smoking though is it? Unless you become a alcoholic obviously.

Not as bad of course not, but contrary to popular belief it still has negative effects on fitness, even small amounts <ok>

That's why I said isn't seen. Working within fitness I do neither.

Interesting explanation of the end of the Big Four monopoly: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35918431

He reckons it's gone for ever. That would be almost too much to hope for. It may well become like the old First Division where there were definitely bigger and smaller teams, but everybody could beat everybody on a given day and very little was certain, apart from Liverpool. Well perhaps we won't even have them dominating. If Pat Nevin's right, and I think he is in the short to medium term, then the next few seasons are going to be a lot more fun and competitive. A bit like it was before the Premier League started. Just with better stadiums and pitches. ;)

No, a club in such a mess doing April fools seems inappropriate. Gabby can do what he likes, its not like he's the reason they are crap this season.
