Dave, you have been on fire today I must say, been smacking this forum about with the truth and I am loving it!
In his present mode Carroll needs an old fashioned winger (piss off downfield, skin the fullback and sling it across). That's just not Liverpool's style and hasn't been since the days of Highway and Callaghan. City paid us the greatest compliment against United by emploting our tactics. The wideman takes the ball to within 10 yds of the box or until he meets the fullback. He is supported by our fullback (a duo) or forms a triangle with the winger and fullback on the touchline and another player further infield. They pass between them to create either space behind the fullback or space to attack the box itself. Time and again City employed that very tactic with Silva as the inside man. It's a far more effective tactic than merely lobbing a ball into the area in the hope that one big man can get his head on it!
if we are resorting to this sort of thing the situation is not good is it. compared to last year? well H7G and hodgson plus the owrst set of players complete with the want away set as well? I'm not even going to look back there. thats another club and another time that bears no resemblence to today. Today we've new owners new team, new manager BUT hang on 4 wins, 3 draws 2 defeats. Thats not going to cut the mustard of where we supposedly want to be. Ergo dressing it up in a compariosn to that time is pointless. The fact is we've leaked goals, we've missed chances and we've picked up 15 points but dropped 12 that wee there... sunderland, utd, norwich, stoke. nobody can tell me we couldn't have done a lot better each occasion. The spurs thing was a one off but even there we started awful and were one down before adam let us down. nope sorry but must do better will in all probability be the half term report for this side.
Too true. I was fully expecting that 'big win' on Saturday, which was why I was even more disappointed. I still fell it's coming though. Maybe not West Brom away. I'll be ecstatic with just three points there, but possibly Swansea (or Chelsea ). Keep the faith and believe.
Agree with you and Dave, Bluff. I said the same last night. If Carroll can't hack it with 'pass and move', then he's got to go and we get someone who can. No room for sentiment if we want to be up there.
