Spend what you want, you just need to pay a fine for your overspending.

Apparently, 17 of the current 20 premier league clubs are onboard with this.

I would guess that it's the 17 who were in the PL last year....

Ridiculous. Once again catering to the richest clubs. The state owned clubs will just laugh at the fines as it will be pennies to them.

That's goes through and Newcastle win a title in the next 3-5 years.

That aside. What a stupid way of handling the overspending in football. Make it so the super rich can pay a slight tax.

Never seen anything so ****ing ridiculous. The sport is ****ed.

If anything it might hasten the bubble bursting. When you have to spend billions just to compete, the pool of people willing to do that will be very small.

Yeah it make the point at the top of the pyramid very pointy.

Don't see this as a deterent at all. Just see it as carte Blanche for the mega rich to leave everyone else well and truly in their dust.

This is one of my fears that the PL and to an extent the FA bow down and the rules will not be enforced as we hoped

So would the independent regulator not come into the equation on this.... otherwise whats the point if there not included in rule changes

So a team massively overspends and then pays a chunk of money to the all of the other rich teams who didn't overspend. If a team gets relegated they get even more money through parachute payments.

The chasm between EPL and EFL is just going to get even bigger.

If it weren't for point deductions this season the 3 promoted teams would already be down. Its only going to get worse.

Always baffles me when most of the leauge vote for something that benefits a few. Bit like when the Premier league TV money was to be paid out equally between all 20 clubs, big guns decided that "this simply wont do gentlemen", next thing you know everyone voted for the payments to represent final leauge position. Rich got richer and the same will happen with this. Turkeys voting for Christmas. Truth is, there's been a more than one opportunity for the "rest of us" to tell the big boys to go and f**k themselves", but it never happens. Why not earth would teams like Bournemouth,Wolves etc want to make the gap even bigger? Not saying this as a Sunderland fan, but can you imagine what Newcastle flexing the cheque book would be like? They could outbid anybody.

My guess is they vote for it so they remain friendly with the 'big clubs'.
