But on who's terms? Suarez or the club.

I said about a month ago that Suarez was to be in talks over a new contract - with an official release clause due to be added to it.

<whistle>

Just saying...

Think it's best for both parties. Suarez will then make sure he gets his clause about us having to sell to someone if they match a valuation but we'll make sure it's a good valuation and also tie him down for a couple more years if no one does decide to match it.

Keep everyone happy <ok>

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged his former club to ditch plans to offer Luis Suarez a new contract.

Suarez, who had asked for a move away from Anfield over the summer, was subject of intense interest from both Arsenal and Real Madrid.

But despite pushing for the switch, he eventually stayed put, and reports last week suggested the Reds are set to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

However, Kop Hero Aldridge has hit out at the idea, and says Suarez should not be rewarded for wanting to leave.

‘Suarez was very keen to leave Liverpool in the summer and I have no doubt that he will look to get away once again,’ said Aldridge.

‘So why try and get him to commit to the club now, so soon after he did the dirty on them with his bid to join Arsenal?

‘Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre may have told the media he would consider a new contract for Suarez in a bid to dampen down any fresh speculation over the future of the striker.

‘But if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League once again, I’m sure Suarez will want to leave and I would advise my old club to get as much money for him as possible and rebuild the team with the new funds.’

Suarez would reportedly pocket around £160,000-a-week as part of a new deal, which would make him Liverpool’s most highly paid ever.

It’s thought that despite Aldridge’s comments, negotiations over the new deal could begin as early as next week.

I really do not like Aldridge. Having said that, I agree that Luis should not be rewarded with a pay rise or bonus etc. Just offer a new contract which extends his existing deal but with a clear release clause of £50-60m.

£41 mill and Benzema may be worth looking at, they blatantly over paid for Bale, the ****ers are not getting Luis cheap.

just hope we are in a position for such demands or have the balls to do it. £41 mill ffs.

It's not a "reward" though, is it? It's a pragmatic arrangement designed to keep hold of a player that the club deems too valuable to let go without a fight.
How can we expect some street kid from Uruguay to have the same loyalty to LFC that we have? I think fans have to be more practical and stop taking his lack of loyalty as a personal insult.
At least he earns his corn by giving his all on the pitch- unlike some other very talented players.

It's a bit poorly at the moment- I can't understand why.

Is this a derail, by any chance?

I accept that Luis is more than likely off before the next season starts, but I would like to keep him until next summer rather than January. Need to keep a settled squad with a couple of additions - not taking players out of it!

18. It is inevitable that he will go so I'd like to see us get the best price for him, I'm not too fussed about when it happens after the summer.

Guess depends what the situation is like in January. If he's on fire and we're really in the mix for Champ League places I'd like to think the club will stand firm and Suarez will understand that the wish that he wants to play CL football) may be a reality if he stays with us to the end.

If however, we are out of the running for top 4 by Jan then wouldn't have any problems with selling him then and letting Rodgers build again for following season.

Would be happy if he went to Madrid for £55m, we shouldn't sell to a PL team under any circumstances.

Seeing as they spent a **** load of cash on Bale, we might actually be able to get closer to £60m from them <ok>
