Yeah I realised I put it in the wrong thread just before you posted. Now in correct thread. If only your namesake was as sharp as you in front of the goal.
2014/15 ended with a 7th place finish (the clubs highest for 24 years) and qualification for Europe for the first time since 2003. Yet looking back the club finished 10 points from the champions league after losing 5 of the final 8 matches. The cracks were showing amongst the traditional Big six clubs and it felt like an opportunity lost for some. One of those defeats came against a resurgent Leicester side who won 7 of their final 9 league games to survive relegation. The new season started with arguably one of the best marketing campaigns. I do hope Jay Rod stops this football lark and pursues his real talent for acting
2015/16 kicked off in July for saints as Europa qualification began at home to Dutch Side Vitesse. Saints disappointing fell at the next qualifying round to FC Midgetland. For all the success in the league, the cups were a big let down during the golden seasons of Poch & Koeman.
Classic Match 8 Chelsea 1-3 Southampton Saints travelled to visit the champions at Stamford bridge after a slow start to the league campaign, not helped by the late arrival of Virgil Van Dijk as replacement for Toby Alderweireld The saints team were starting to click Even Jose cried
Jurgen Klopp was now at Anfield, but Mané prevented a first home league win Bourneouth had made it to the premier league - I still can’t believe it now and saints met them for the first time in the top flight
Classic Match 9 Like the season before saints had got themselves stuck in a rut over November/December. The arrival of Arsenal on Boxing Day felt like a difficult match until Cuco Martina introduced himself
Good afternoon everyone Thank you for all the nominations for favourite moments from the past 11 seasons. What a lot of great moments and matches we have enjoyed! Now we enter Phase 2: The Voting From your nominations, I have compiled a list of 25 memories. Over the coming days, your job is to try to put them in order, with your most favourite at the top. (Good luck, it's not easy!) Here is the list, currently in chronological order. Most were a match or moment in the match, the only exceptions were the iconic Saint Gaston! thread, and JWP's free kicks amalgamated as one memory rather than choosing any one in particular. A - Not606 Saint Gaston! thread B - Man City 3 – 2 Southampton – first game back in PL C - England 3 – 2 Scotland – Lambert goal with first touch D - Southampton 4 – 1 Hull – Lallana goal E - Southampton 1 – 1 Man City – Osvaldo goal F - Fulham 0 – 3 Southampton – Rodriguez goal G - Southampton 8 – 0 Sunderland H - Hull 0 – 1 Southampton – Wanyama’s goal I - Southampton 6 – 1 Villa – Long’s goal and Mane’s hattrick J - Chelsea 1 – 3 Southampton K - Southampton 4 – 0 Arsenal - Cuco Martina goal L - Southampton 3 – 2 Liverpool M - Inter Milan 1 - 0 Southampton N - Southampton 2 – 1 Inter Milan O - League Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg: Liverpool 0 – 1 Southampton 0 Shane Long goal P - League Cup Final: Man Utd 3 – 2 Southampton Q - Southampton 1 – 0 West Brom – Boufal goal R - Southampton 2 – 1 Bournemouth - Tadic brace S - Swansea 0 – 1 Southampton – Gabbiadini goal T - Watford 1 – 1 Southampton – Shane Long fastest goal U - Portsmouth 0 – 4 Southampton V - Chelsea 0 – 2 Southampton – Redmond goal W - Leicester 1 – 2 Southampton (after the 0-9) X - Southampton 2 – 0 Newcastle – Top of the league! Y - James Ward Prowse’s free kicks To enter, you must place these events into our favoured order and then send your order to me by PM (please don't paste here as it may swap others' votes) You can either paste the full text, or if it helps you just the letter codes for each event (e.g. if your favourite moment was beating Portsmouth 4-0, your list will start with U). If you are able to, it will really help me if you include the letter code either way (rather than just the description)! Initially I will leave the voting open for one week (so until next SUnday afternoon).
I can relate this story now because said player has now left the club. One of my son`s oldest pals is Clark Robertson - they went to nursery together. For the last two seasons Clark has been Captain of our fishy chums along the M27. I was in Southampton last November, staying in my son`s gaff. Anyway, Clark blagged tickets from his old team mate Gav Bazunu for the Sheff Wed EFL cup tie. Clark swung by for a meal before he kindly drove us all to the match. He spent the game wearing a woolly hat and had his face buried in the collar of his jacket should someone recognise him. So there we are - myself and AberdeenSaint Jnr went to SMS accompanied by, courtesy of, and chauffeured by the Captain of Portsmouth FC. I have no idea how many games I`ve been to in my lifetime, but that was easily the most bizarre experience I`ve ever had.
Here are the votes from the SA jury... U C O P M X Y L G B V S K J I D Q F R E N A W T H I think that's all of them!
Bit of an aside, but I wonder how many Saints fans would actually recognise any Pompey players these days.
“What did you get up to this weekend?” “Oh, I spent a really enjoyable 10 minutes putting some Saints memories into an order of my most favourite” “Wow that sounds amazing!” Is I’m sure how you’d all like your Monday morning conversations to go 4 sets of votes in so far , the more we get the better the results sequence is! (Vote either here or via PM, the way SA did it as a list above is perfect)
