It's better than nothing though. According to the figures for 18/19 - sorry haven't worked out how to post links on my phone - most banning orders Newcastle,Grimsby, Birmingham , Sheffield United, West Ham. Most arrests - Stoke, Leeds, Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Manchester City. Banning orders are down from 3,089 in 2010 to 1,381 last year. Is it a deterrent then or are they just not issuing as many?
And another thing... How come they can always find enough money and tar to make speed bumps but not to fix pot holes? .[/QUOTE] Very good point
It’s not really is it? Speedbumps are bound to be part of safety regulations and packages will be tendered and figured into annual budgets, whereas potholes will be paid for by some sort of contingency allocation.
I just don't think it's right that you can be banned from attending over 100 different venues in the country by a court without being convicted of a criminal offence. If the clubs themselves want to ban them of course that's a different story, they're privately owned businesses and can do what they like.
This thread is so much harder to have an opinion on when you can't be arsed opening the links in the O.P.
If they get a total ban from attending all football matches they'd never leave the old bill station these days
Sentenced to wander the earth searching for the unfindable...bit like a west ham fan looking for a decent home performance
If there's no conviction, the application by the police for a banning order still has to have 2 pieces of evidence to secure the ban such as eye witness testimony, video evidence or a profile of multiple instances of football related violence or racial abuse etc. So in essence it's the same punishment for the same 'crime' just that some were convicted and some weren't. Moral of the story - behave like a decent person and you'll be treated like one. The vast majority of fans will only be attached to one club and their fixtures will be well known so while it seems like a ban covering 100 grounds is excessive, there will only be 20 (for a PL fan) that are relevant.
Why not just stick one of those electronic ankle tags on each foot, and if they go anywhere near a football ground it blows their feet off. It's not rocket science, we have the tech.
Yeh I know the historic implications of being a football fan, treated like animals if you were lucky but you know what I mean here. Don't do monkey gestures, nazi salutes or riot in the stands if you don't want to face the consequences.
I'd argue, if you want to treat us like kunts, we'll behave like one. Some of the stewarding at football matches leaves a lot to be desired, and I've had a few face offs with them in my time. And I can honestly say none of the events ever saw monkey gestures or nazi salutes, the stewards just wanted to act like antagonising dickheads. You being from Liverpool should know that more than most.
