Big teams that are not egotistical oil states don't need it..most don't even try. Egotistical oil states want to dominate so try to win Small.clubs want some money and it's only a couple games to them Lower half prem teams dump it ASAP Take the Euro spot off it and see how many bother.
Ok not no one. But I imagine if you look at attendances, they are way down on lesgue or fa cup games. Majority of managers aren’t fussed as they heavily rotate their squads in the first 2/3 rounds until they get to the semi so it’s not high on their priority list. We’ve had many of our own fans say they don’t mind going out of the LC early as just a distraction and gets in the way of a busy schedule. heck most fans call it a Micky mouse cup unless you win it. So yeah, some people obvious like it, but can’t deny it’s 3rd tier in terms of the trophies on offer for clubs during a season and I bet every club would rather a promotion than winning the league cup. Heck even most prem teams would prefer safety and a mid table finish over winning the LC.
That’s because you’ve gone further by winning games. Not because you’ve lucked out and drawn a big team away from home.
Well, unless there is clear evidence that the majority of clubs in the English League don't want it, I can only see this as an elitist view from the top. Football began as a participant sport and developed into an entertainment. I feel certain the fans of smaller clubs look forward to seeing their teams play, why suggest denying that to so many on the whim of the more privileged? I can see an argument for dropping the European participants - even the PL teams perhaps, but not for scrapping the entire competition.
err to get a big club in either of the cups the majority of EFL clubs , never mind non league , have gone further by winning games .
Cardiff v Saints yesterday Capacity of 33k attendance of 7k last night Colchester v brentford 10k stadoum 6k attendance Swansea 20k stadium 6k attendance Boro 34k stadium 17k attendance Barnsley 23k 10k attendance Lower league teams only want it for the hope of getting a decent draw against a top team in round 3 or 4 if get there. Before that they aren’t making any money out of it.
But 2 clubs can win exact same games and 1 could get United away and the other shrewsbury at home. that gives one a huge boost that the other doesn’t. CL rewards clubs with prize money playing madrid at home or villareal doesn’t make any difference to lfc in terms of income so it’s not comparable.
That's not really accurate. The prize money isn't the thing. If I've a full anfield and can charge 1000s for hospitality as real are in then I make a lot of coin. If quarabag are in and I can't charge the dame then I don't make the same coin even if the crowd is in.
Anfield is full for a semi final v Madrid as it is v a semi final against qarabag. You don’t get any more tv money depending on which team you face. Sure ticket prices and stuff may be a small increase but it’s tiny in comparison to the tv money and prize money you get. Point being that CL revenue is pretty fixed no matter who you play, the LC and FAC can vary widely for 2 teams. Team 1 coukd get United away on TV in 3rd round and make way more money than team 2 who get to the 4th or 5th round but only play small clubs at home and neither game picked for tv. As an example
The evidence is in the attitude taken to it right across . It's a second string cup right down the leagues
I think you are discounting the value of having premium games and pricing. Youd make more off one cl round match in match day than and entire league cup run
TAA in the England squad. Quite a few changes. Only RBs are him and Livramento so looks like it’s his spot to lose with James injured, Walker not selected and trippier retiring.
Not sure how much Should Shouldn't read into the position listed but interested have foden and palmer down as midfield where as Eze Grealish madueke Saka down as forwards. Can see palmer playing in a proper midfield, does that signal a more 4231 with palmer/foden in the 10?
For context, Colchester had 3,883 fans for their league game on Saturday and 6,716 fans for the cup game last night, so nearly double the attendance. The stadium is just too big for the club.
This seems hard for some people to grasp, but not everything is about money. These clubs all have fans who want to watch their teams play games, and the fact that their fanbase is small isn't the point. Like I said, if nobody wanted the competition then I'd accept that, but until then it all just seems rather patronising to me.
Well we will see. Southgate would play a cb there. Maybe white will get off his sunbed and take the place eventually
I think sometimes people don't realise that they are part of the elite until it's pointed out to them. (Not aimed at anyone here.) I think it's easy to forget what an amazing fixture it is and how the memory of it will live forever when you're a fan of a big club, making those memories weekly. It doesn't happen the way around. Unless there was something remarkable about the game, no Liverpool fan is going to be remembering forever the day they played Crewe Alex, for example, like their fans will remember it.
...though we probably all remember Traore's amazing OG against Burnley. (FA Cup instead of League Cup, but still)
