Any teams to worry about in the later stages? I feel like we're the standout team in the EL this year, by quite some distance.
It was more than two dates, it involved three different shows/plays, certainly not a weekly occurrence. I think we need events that bring us together, not push us apart.
Just going to play devils advocate here. the theatre is probably seen as a very posh ‘white person’ thing to do. I wonder if that puts off black and minority groups going for fear they may get judged or feel out of place and this will allow them to go alongside their peers and feel more comfortable? Much like women only gyms / gym classes?
It's a very complex issue isn't it. There's no doubt that racism still exists. I've seen it first hand. I was in a restaurant in London and saw the 'welcomer' refuse entry to a black couple by claiming that the place was full. It wasn't. There were plenty of tables that didn't get anywhere near filled up the whole time we were in there, so there wasn't even the excuse that it looked quite empty but the tables were actually booked. The only reason I could see for not letting them in was because they were black. I could be wrong but I can't think of any other explanation. That's just one example, I have others. I say this because sometimes (based on the reactions I get), I think some people think that I'm denying that racism exists in our society today. Yesterday, for example, I'm not sure if you were saying that I was asserting that calling someone fat or short before an insult equated to and was as bad as inserting their skin colour. I wasn't. I'm probably not expressing myself as clearly as I want but I'm just saying that I'm not denying or downplaying racism. Now to answer your devil's advocate question. This country is historically white so the culture is historically white. Which in itself is a silly thing to say. It's just the culture of the people who live in the country who happen to be white. There is no need to insert a colour unless and until there is another culture or cultures to compare it with. This is where the problem starts. The existing culture of the country now seemingly has to be labelled as white and only seemingly by those of another colour or culture who take issue with it hence the theatre people wanting black audiences to be able to enjoy a play 'away from the white gaze'. The first theatre in this country was founded in 1576 at a time when there was minuscule diversity in population, so it's fair to say that it was and continues to be patronised largely by white people. People of other ethnicities have never been barred from going and I'm sure that in reality theatre goers are more diverse than is being portrayed. It doesn't seem fair to try and make white people feel somehow guilty now after hundreds of years of theatre going. Coupled with the fact that it's still a majority white country, why is it surprising that nearly everything is white dominated. The same thing is happening with calling the countryside "a racist and colonial white space''. It's mind boggling. There are certain sports that are dominated by blacks like boxing and basketball and certain sports that are dominated by whites like swimming and tennis. It doesn't mean that opposite ethnicities aren't welcome, it just means that they have naturally gravitated towards sports that they feel they do well in. There seems to be a concerted effort in some quarters to create friction between the races. I'd better stop now. Sorry for the long post.
don’t disagree. But rightly or wrongly you’d prob feel a bit uncomfortable or maybe awkward being the only white person in a huge audience of black people. I’m sure a black person would feel even more uncomfortable and judged if it was the other way round.
I've been in that situation a few times and it does feel uncomfortable, still done it though. I had as much right to be there as anyone else.
everton have got over the little anger boost they had are are spiralling back to relegation battle. they should get another 6 point deduction this season and be down
they are always going to win thst. have a low gd is the best outcome anyone could reasonably expect. they will have one eye on midweek too.
Havertz who should have been sent off scores the winner Do wonder when refs are going to actually start applying the laws when it comes to dives. These days absolutely no punishment given so no reason not to try your luck.
