Yeah and made one high profile **** up and was canned by your club. Anyone would think Klopp couldn't spot a keeper
Think he made a couple of high profile ones but the one that always sticks in my head is the one where they were discussing him and in the background as the reporter was talking or commentator was he fecked up in the back ground Lmao
My point is you should never judge a player on one (or even a few) games. Take the total into account and see how the balance lies. Should you have kept him? well given that you then got Alisson probably not but you have to accept that literally all keepers (and players in general) drop massive bollocks at some point, he just happened to do it in a CL game so paid a really high price. Did he have many/any other major gaffs before that? straight question because i really don't know.
...and my point was simply that you can't dismiss criticism just because someone's an international that made a CL final. I do actually agree that you you shouldn't write someone off based on a handful of games, and Onana's not come in to the easiest of situations. I'm not sure he inspires confidence in his team mates though (yet). Karius made several other mistakes and was never good enough, e.g. he should have been sent off against Roma in the semi-final. I'm fairly certain we had been linked with Alisson before the CL final. He certainly wasn't dropped because of one game only.
You just had to watch him play, and yes - it only needed a handful of games. Even his make-him-look-good-on-YouTube reel, that we saw before we signed him, showed a rather average keeper who repeatedly pushed the ball back out into the danger area.
When you say WE are you talking about supporters or the club? Shame i have to ask this because i am getting some good informative replys tonight to genuin questions without getting called a wum. I realise this question might change that but it has to be asked because the club should know at least as much as the supporters about a player they buy.
Fifa? The global fan boys, pandering to the public vote, I'd have more faith in fc 24s ratings. Or if you want to get serious, football manager 2023
I always give you a truthful answer to a genuine question - it's only when you're in the mood for a bout of nonsense (like suggesting Alisson isn't one of the best keepers in the world, for instance) that I tend to bail out. I'm talking about me and the video I saw. I was a bit concerned and said so at the time. I think most of us on here saw and commented on it - some were wary like me, and some were just hoping he would be an improvement on Mignolet. It was all I'd seen of Karius up to that point, and because Klopp seemed to want him I tried to put misgivings aside. With the benefit of hindsight I saw my first impression was pretty accurate. Migs problem was that he didn't dominate his box well enough, but he was a good shot stopper and usually pushed the ball out of danger (I thought he was a bit maligned tbh - as you've said, the primary job of a keeper is to make saves). Karius just didn't look that good at anything, and for me the CL final just added to that. I felt sorry for him, - but I had no confidence in him afterwards. If he'd just been unlucky with us, then surely he would have gone on to make a name for himself elsewhere?
aw bless. the last bastion of excuse for the desperate. pull out the only stat that might make a player that's held your club back for years. let's all just ignore how poor utd have been for yonks and how they struggled to cover the pitch so end up in a low block help that exact stat while not scoring enough. tin hat just bought the wrong replacement ya dingbat. you'll never admit it but that sideshow Bob of a keeper is as big and issue the other way.
Karius had fundamental flaws in his shot saving ability that manifested itself quite a few times over the season before we got to the CL Final, unfortunately the failed long range shot from Bale sealed his fate. Karius, once away from Liverpool also showed he had an attitude problem.
