Everton look as if they may be charged for breaching FFP rules, when City just brazenly breach them and no action is taken. The Premier League always go after the small clubs don't they:bandit:

Going after Everton won't hurt the Premier League. Going after City, a multiple time winner and responsible of bringing lots of big names to Britain (and being therefore partly responsible for the PL overtaking La Liga by a long way to become the world's most watched league).

Taking down Everton, a nobody (sorry Everton) is a no brainier. Taking down City for rule breaking hurts the future income model for the league and damages the leagues reputation.

City won't be punished because punishing City will hurt the PL's income in other countries.

What's the punishment if guilty? Points drop, automatic relegation, transfer freeze?

Any one of those could be end of Everton's top flight no matter how valiantly they fight to stay up. They probably won't get charged this season, and probably unlikely to conclude during the summer, so will be start of 24/25 before any points punishment takes effect (unless they're auto relegated).

They've got two years to adapt and start cutting back expenses before they're knocked down a tier (if found guilty). They may drop down before then of course. Unless they improve a lot, a 10 point Penalty is going to doom them any near-future season.

How Everton have got away with it so far is incredible. Somehow despite having a very average size stadium they managed to use the excuse that covid hit them harder than most others in world football in terms of lost revenue so put all their losses down to that <doh>

A fine almost seems absurd when the charge is they've been spending more than they can afford.

    Well that's the rules.

it depends on the level of breach.

just like red bull. 3 or 4 million over budget cap and they get a 10% wind tunnel restriction on the car that's already dominant.

Everton have massive losses that they have attempted to write down to covid to the point of being just under the ffp limit. clearly some of these the Premier league rejects.

the rules ought to be that if you accept your punishment OK but if you go appealing and threatening the law then you get the full in 50point deduction when found guilty.

Everton have come out swinging here and really... we all know they've been skirting disaster for years.

Happens in real life too though doesn't it?
People can be fined for not being able to pay things - it's always seemed bizarre to me.

Agree but what's the alternative? Take the mobster approach and remove a part of their body each day until it's settled? <laugh>

I used to be pretty good mates with a bloke who for a while was a loan sharks persuader though we never discussed it so it may have just been gossip <whistle>

Each Everton footballer loses three toes for each year of violation. Except the goalkeeper. Goalkeepers lose fingers.

Punishment is either a) fine in excess of £100,000 or b) a 'sporting sanction 'of any kind.

Well, it's a good question, but I suppose it depends on the type and severity of the offence. Community service perhaps, if it's not something worthy of imprisonment.
It just seems odd to try and exact a reparation that just exacerbates the situation that led to the offence in the first place.

And in football, it should be an automatic points deduction.

What sort of non-payments result in fines? I was thinking that non-payment of car loan, for example, would result in repossession of the car.
