Now maybe it’s me but can a guy that cost 70m and is paid 300k a week be a cult hero? I thought cult heroes were those unlikely players that fans take affection to. Not sure a guy that’s one of top 10 prem transfers and one of top 5 earners falls into that category? Feel he’s performing as you’d expect a guy that cost that much to be doing. Anything less would be an absolute fail n

 

I think it's just that many thought the fee and wages were excessive and now they don't.

 

I think some think that a foreign player coming in with no childhood link to the club, for example, who 'gets' the club and kisses the badge is seen as a cult hero. Like Richarlison at Everton, who couldn't wait to leave in the end.

 

Cult heroes to me have always been someone that may not be the best, other fans wouldn’t mention when it comes to talking about previous players but we’re loved by their fans for being a trier, or doing something memorable.
