Has to go. Villa are going nowhere and nobody there likes his lack of style.

Surely it's only a matter of when

Back to Scotland, or a Championship side?

Probably won't get a PL side offer again for a while now.

Back to TV I assume and to pretend he knew what he was at etc.

Hopefully now that's the end of any talk of Gerrard at Liverpool as he really didn't show any ability to put a style in place at villa or identity. Defence was poor as well.

Lampard and hasselhuth now next under pressure?

The fact he won a title at Rangers and our 2 matches recently show the level Scottish premiership is actually at, I’d say league 1 is about his managerial standard.

Much as I admired Stevie as a player I've never considered him to be a viable option for Liverpool manager. I don't think he has the personality to get the best from others.
He was a leader by example as a player, entirely different traits are needed to be a successful manager.

It's easy to say after the fact but he should have stayed at our U23's a bit longer and close to Klopp to learn from him. Rangers wasn't a bad move but the jump from there to the PL was too big. Also leaving in the middle of a season isn't ideal. He spoilt how Rangers fans viewed him by doing that and now he's lost some credibility as to his ability to manage at a decent level.

Tbf, he did a good job with Michael Beale as his number 2. But since he's left, he's not the same.

The reality at rangers is he had enough money to progress rangers by buying players to get 2nd.

Celtic imploded for a season and he won the title.

now thats a bit harsh but it is the truth he never won another cup there (not great is it?) but he did do well in europe for any scottish side.

Rangers are a team that is in a historic 2 club league. it looked to me like celtic easily has rangers number and gerrard frankly looked like he was a goner for rangers before that title. It was 10 in a row for celtic and then WHAM. Celtic absolutely implode and leave rangers a free run at it. Now they did excellent as well don't get me wrong but it was a celtic implosion
rangers won 32 and drew 6 including beating celtic witce. Celtic won 22, drew 11 lost 5 so that tells you where they ended up. 77 points and massively behind rangers

The jump out of ranger imo was smart as they were never keeping up with celtic again who've promptly retaken the initiative. He jumps ship before he could be pushed but the villa move has been poor.

Villa spent a load of cash under dean smith so were never going to be where he needed to go. the cash was spent.

    Gerrard signings were

    Carlos at CB
    Coutinho at LW
    Dedoncker as no 6
    Olsen as reserve keeper
    Digne at LB
    Baily LW
    Bunedia at RW
    Ings at CF

The reality check is that all this

    ashely young at RB? WTF.
Same key players really. martinez, Konsa, mings, mcginn, watkins.

He simply didnt have the impact on the side that he needed to and imposed no real culture or impact.

Think it’s harsh to say he only won lesgue at rangers cos celtic imploded. They stormed that league and the defensive records they set were brilliant. Yes the lesgue isn’t great, but then the rangers players aren’t great as shown by their CL games this season.

Think his issue is didn’t seem to really implement a style there that fans could get behind. He wasn’t solid defensively and losing games 1-0 but at same time wasn’t all out attack and losing games 4-3 which would at least give the fans something. Was pretty dour football which then added to lack of wins only ends one way.

Was interesting listening to McGinn comments after the game though. Was full of backing for manager saying the players have totally let him down etc.

Look at mings. Was potential England CB this winter. Last couple games, was at fault for chelsea goals, then gets feet in tangle and scores own goal yesterday.

Luiz sent off for headbutt, whats manager meant to do about that?

Martinez been awful in goal. Ran away from Mounts free kick last week that went down middle of the goal.

I know not just about last couple games but those are just recent situations where players have failed him.

Coutinho - now was a gerrard signing so has to take some blame, but been awful. Watkins and Ings not finishing any chances. injury to big money CB 2 games in.

I'll be quite honest.... mings was singled out by Gerrard as not giving enough earlier and unlike klopp who just dropped sahko here is Gerrard playing him. Same for Luiz, the club wouldn't sell him but he wanted out. Gerrard wasn't strong and now the club gave him a new deal. Again, anthother who is a loose cannon.

Gerrard hasn't weeded the dressing room. It's that simple.

Some players will pay lip service to backing managers and that but it's the job of any manager to shift the wheat from the chaff and quickly.

Gerrard is out cos as you said there was no identity but also he wasn't ruthless

I wonder what the odds are that Gerrard becomes another Hodgson.

If you look at his record it's success follower by failure, followed by success followed by failure, etc. Every time he did well in a nothing league he'd get a good job with a real team and blow it and go back to a nothing league and winning there..

Too early to say he's the next Hodgson, but a success in Scotland followed by a blowout in England... He's started on that path.

Nah. Hodgson worked like a dog round Europe for 20 years to get his chance.

Gerrard will be another lampard. Probably be linked to or apply for about 10 prem jobs and not get them until someone is desperate enough like everton were with lampard.

If Gerrard was smart he'd now and live on his rangers title and not getting villa relegated and be a pundit now. Closer to family and all that stuff.

    Easy life.
