I'm more inclined to agree with this than disagree with it but can I ask you, did you have an opinion on the owners over their actions regarding the super league?

Yes. Obviously super league was poor idea from all concerned however from a business point of view they would have been silly not to go along with it if 5 other prem clubs wanted to go ahead.

Can you imagine the outcry if ESL formed and united city arsenal spurs and Chelsea joined and we didn’t?

ESl was a **** show all round. They made a mistake, they backed out. Job done, why hold a grudge.

I'm not sure we have seen the end of this ESL stuff.

Kane missing Spurs 'Europa whatever' game

    Down to 'Fitness' apparently.

Smells like a huge pile of horseshit to me

But then Kane is the #modelpro

    It all fits both narratives.

    a) "he's not fit cos he missed preseason and had to isolate"

    b) "he can't be cup tied for europe." I'm not sure this is true any more though.

yeah was probably a bit opinionated. Sorry! Point really was that had the ESL gone ahead and we weren’t involved, FSG would have been lambasted and frankly, we would have become a 2nd rate footballing club from that moment onwards.

personally, I can see the ESL coming back at some point, perhaps in a different guise but still. Maybe they’ll have more sense next time and not make it a closed shop…..and if it does, I fully expect FSG to be at the table.

It's been mooted for yonks, I've no doubt they'll just keep plugging away until they get what they want - as you say, in some form or other. Although the majority of fans are dead-set against it, so I'm not sure how it could be smuggled in.
The big issue for me is the closed-shop idea, imo that makes it little more than a series of exhibition matches. It's not that I'd stop watching because I object to it, it's just that I think my interest would naturally wane with that set-up.
It simply doesn't appeal to me.
I'd rather be one of the 2nd rate clubs - as you put it - that still retain a connection with our roots.

Double relegation, how they got promoted to the PL and stayed up is a mystery.
They're the only club in the Championship yet to score, haven't scored in 7 league games and haven't scored more than 1 in something like 22/23 league games.

    Truly an appalling squad.

Would serve them right for sacking Wilder. Got them promoted, an outstanding season in the prem then back to normal levels fighting relegation as you’d expect with that squad and gets the sack.

Sheff utd appointed a guy who's living off a title in spain and has some experience i nthe championship where he's got both fulham and watford promoted.

The issue for me is that they have no identity right now. wilder shaped a team that individually were poor. mcgoldrick, sharp , mcbunnie etc.

But they have loads of players to get an 11 out of and not get a second relegation but you'd feel once they sell ramsdale they might just figure this out and get a goal threat.

one good loan in theory even by end of august could solve a lot.

yes and no, wilder was not exactly happy and made i known so it was inevitable they parted ways. the reasons why he was not happy. he wanted signings in january, i think he was a bit sick of not getting players for a couple of windows. Some part of this might well be their own fault but theres a small part where wilder wanted out or wanted something they were never going to give and he said stuff it.

If you look at what he did get in Berge looks a good player but hardly outstanding and attitude seems suspect. Strikes me as a lad who saw a stepping stone move and took it but didn't get he had to out perform to get the next move.

Brewster for 25mil is an odd one. it could have been last chance saloon buy or could have been targeted but either way its disastrous.

    A lot of cbs there.

Lose the closed shop aspect and the ESL would have been a go-er IMO. That was the single biggest obstacle. If they make it a fairer competition, a lot of clubs and fans will be more receptive to the idea because UEFA and FIFA are the biggest corrupt organisations going, plus City and PSG continuing to spend stupid sums

You're probably right - but I still don't want to be playing Barca, Juventus etc several times a year, no matter what.

theres no real difference between the EUFA version and the ESL version

    post 2024

teams will play in effect against 10 other teams. 5 home and 5 away. top 8 overall qualify, next there play offs to decide who goes through to last 16.

In the ESL it was set up as guess what 2 groups of 10 and home and way games. with guess what? yes plays offs. to decide who goes through.

In effect the uefa version has a few less games.

People need to get wise to the power plays. Uefa will expand this champions league into a super league in all but name now. the clubs made a play for power and burned themselves.

The only thing stopping european league is domestic cups. 2 games per week every week. Fans are already driven demented by covid and the amount of fottbal on the box so its only natural to keep it going.
