Jimenez has a fractured skull, he was operated on last night. Reports suggest he is sitting up and chatting away so maybe not so serious.

Luiz should have been subbed. The clash caused another to lose consciousness and/or admitted to hospital.

this may not be an issue in the future as heading the ball gets banned.

Think Cech was out for months, iirc. But here's the thing - will he be allowed to wear a head protector on his return? Surely we're moving that way. Maybe compulsory one day?

They let him drive home as well, ffs. I'd be sacked if I let a member of staff who'd received a head injury through accident or assault drive home. Incredulous.

There could still be head injuries though - people will still accidentally run into each other.

Sure. But any head injuries should not as severe or serious as the forceful forward movement of the head won’t be added to any forward momentum. That clash could be heard in the stadium. Absolutely sickening. Accidental and unintentional but indicates the force exerted by Luiz’s forehead on Jimenez’s skull.

Oh aye. It sounded like the ball had thudded against the post for a second. Did I not read about some Hull player who had to retire after a head injury recently? Fractured skull like: let's see how his recovery goes.

It would have to be like five-a-side. Mind you, I still managed to knock myself out stone cold running into a pillar at the Mystery playing five-a-side in the 80's. :emoticon-0175-drunk

Yes, Ryan Mason, former Spuds player who ended up at Hull, fractured his skull and attempted a comeback but had to retire at 26 due to medical advice.

I agree - regardless of my opinion on safety I can't see that happening.
Boxing hasn't been banned despite the long litany of dementia cases associated with getting punched in the head for a living.

It's banned for under 12's in training isn't it. There's also talk opening up about the link between heading the ball and dementia later in life. I don't see how they could ban it altogether though. The lighter balls must be better than the old fashioned casey.

The dementia cases in football date from a time when we used a ball that was nearer to a medicine ball (especially when wet ffs) than the lightweight things we use now. I can understand the argument for young kids to avoid repetitive heading exercises, but that’s where it should end imo.

    Remember it well. :)
I think sadiosalah was referring to the risk of head clashes rather than heading the ball itself, but like I said I can't see that being banned.
Punch-drunk syndrome has been known since before even I was born, but it hasn't prevented boxing.
