It’d still be 20 even at that, and what about the fans? With no relegation it’s a closed shop, so what about European qualification from domestic leagues? What about UEFA in all do this? Does anyone actually want it barring a handful of owners? There’s more holes in this idea than a Swiss cheese.
Don't think they give a **** about fans, that much is clear. Money is in sponsorship and TV. Personally, I can't see a European league ever happening.
It’s been floated around as an idea since ‘98, under various guises, but it’s never gone anywhere and it’s been met with virtual universal disdain every time. Makes you wonder if those who keep pushing this idea every few years have actually done the basic due diligence on it i.e. actually asked the prospective customer base for it, if they actually want it? I suspect not, as the current arrangement of CL / EL combined with domestic football sort of works and always has done. A European SL would have to come at the expense of domestic football, and personally I just don’t think there’s any genuine desire for it and never has been. Fans would ultimately be paying for it, and so without fans it doesn’t work. Of the many holes in this idea, not least is the fact that all of the top clubs in Europe are used to winning domestic pots - regularly - and their fan bases are driven by this. Just how long do those fanbases hold up, if their side goes from winning pots regularly to being midtable or lower in a ESL? How long is their interest going to hold if they think their chosen side has little or no chance of winning the only pot they’d be in for?
I'm surprised they've disclosed individual match PPV figures. Call me cynical, I thought they'd take a number of games including the big club matches and then lump them all together to give ONE much higher figure.
What IF... the rich owners of a few clubs and/or FIFA paid a fat sweetener to UEFA, FA and the existing PL Clubs to get them on board with the idea of a European PL? Would a billion cover it?
Pretty sure that’s a rumour that was made up by a Blue I know tbh, and it went viral the other day, he ended up having to put a tweet out that said he was taking the piss They’ve defo not released the numbers btw.
Two leagues of 10 with the top 2 going through to a semi final and final would be a great tournament format to be honest. Would love to see something like that.
However you also have qualifiers earlier in the season so you can end up playing more. the Cl proper doesn’t start until 6 or 7 weeks into the season because of those qualifiers, but this format no reason to wait that long as you can just play it from week one so that’s a where you can fit in some more fixtures.
No, as the TV revenue for the PL alone is nearly £3BN per annum, and a weakened PL sees a huge revenue drop for future deals. It’d never get the support needed either domestically or at UEFA. The only way this ever happens is if the clubs just leave and take their chances on their own.
I can see what would be left of the PL would in effect become about as attractive as the Championship. Any attempt from UEFA continuing the Champions League with the remaining clubs would be worse than the Europy.
In 18/19 when you won the CL you played 53 competitive games, you went out of both domestic cups at the first hurdle, so 51 in the league and CL. Yet you think that moving to 34 + 38 so 72 isn’t an issue? Really? Just no. EDIT: to win it it’d be 37,so that’s 75 lol.
Ah right the old FB alternative facts, amazing how **** travels, someone literally makes something up, and it’s then been regurgitated on FB as being fact and will now travel unchecked across God knows how many people, funny as.
I'd seen it pop up a few times hence posting it in here. Don't post things immediately from there unless its either funny or a great wum
Same as YouTube - say anything you like and there's always a few that'll run with it, then others think it must be true because it's "all over the internet".
