Your bottom part isn't what I was saying at all mate. I purely asked as my comment was specific to watching the games live so was wondering if you had experienced it, that's all. I've only done 5 games this season for what it's worth, 4 league & one cup, and that is purely down to var as I did about 20 the season before. It's literally like watching a different sport to me. Fair enough that you're not one of those people it affects in that way, I envy you tbh. But to suggest that it's not a real issue for plenty of supporters is quite clearly not true. Why do you think these Wolves fans are singing against it even after the goal is awarded? I'll tell you why, it's because they felt utterly robbed of the ecstasy of celebrating what was a wonderful goal because of a 3 minute wait to see if someone's armpit was offside. Going to our cup match at Fratton this season really emphasised it to me. Those 4 goals are up there with the goals I've celebrated the most throughout my time watching Saints, and the thought of having to wait a minute or two while var rubber stamped them makes me unbelievably depressed.
I'm not say VAR is good, or Bad in that matter. I think its being used wrong and clearly can't get things right. I just think that the 'spoils the experience' argument is poor, considering there are tons of other things wrong with VAR that are far more pressing and could be used to beat VAR with.
Trust me mate I could go on and on about the other reasons it's ****e too That one is the worst for me though, like I say it's genuinely like watching a different sport to me. I'll probably only do one or two games next year whereas I'd have bought a season ticket had we gone down. It's just about bearable on the box, it's utterly ****e at the match. You're lucky that it doesn't bother you, there's tens of thousands of supporters who feel utterly robbed of the best part of the game. And it's simply not true to pretend otherwise.
Our view on this differed distinctly at first, as you well know, but I agree with every word of that. I completely under estimated the effect it would have on the live experience.
Each to their own. I suppose But you have to remember that you (and supporters in general) really aren't much of a concern to world football. Lets face it if VAR goes it wont be because of the fans. So you might as well get used to it.
And there are millions of fans who feel robbed of the entire game/cup/season when they watch their team lose out because of a blatant and undeniably wrong decision which is instantly replayed for them to know the whole sport is worth less than the ego of a referee.
You’ve literally never experienced what he’s talking about, so your view on what VAR has done to the live experience of being at the match is utterly worthless. The whole debate about VAR itself and it’s overall worth to the game wasn’t the discussion point.
Can't disagree there. I'm trying to take some positives anyway as my local non league club will get some extra funds which I'm sure are needed next season, and I can always hope for cup ties until we go down. It just depresses me as I feel we've lost something special never to return.
I don't care what it's done to the live experience my point is it has improved the experience for the majority of fans.
I've witnessed a blatantly wrong decision go against us in a cup final mate so that one doesn't wash with me I'm afraid. We're also getting plenty of wrong decisions anyway so it's no different really. It just takes longer.
Like the 3 yesterday, that they’ve admitted were all incorrect and 2 of them were decisive turning points in the games, the third only failing to be decisive because Ward Prowse is ****
**** the people who give up their time and money to support their clubs. It's the Man United fans in Malaysia that really matter.
"Actual fans" care about their team's success, not stadium clappers who only care whether they get to make it all about themselves.
This is the major problem imo. Its the getting things wrong, frankly I don't understand that. They literally get to see replays, so how can they get it wrong. Although the length maybe frustrating, its not the thing that concerns me, but I will say if it is taking 5min, perhaps they should just stick with the on field decision cause it would mean the decision is too marginal to call. Its the implementation and interpretation that are wrong
