I'm really not to sure what your arguing about. If this **** clears up in the next 2/3 months the season will resume and run late. If it lasts 6 months plus, I think we will have much bigger things to worry about than the football.
A ball hasn't been kicked for next season yet. IMO this season can be completed by November, later if need be.
To clarify this (according to the BBC), there was one round of games still to play with Club Bruges 15 points ahead of second placed Gent.
Peculiar to Belgium because the top league is only 16 teams, after the regular season there are play offs to decide final placings with the top 6 teams playing each other again home and away to decide the top finishing and teams 7-16 play each other twice home and away to decide the rest of the league. So there are actually 11 games left to the end of their season. (1 or 2 more than us.)
So in normal circumstances Club Bruges wouldn't necessarily be champions by finishing top by 15 points or so? Is this right?
Yes an incomplete season but the BBC saying there was only 1 game left is very misleading because there are 11 games left. It's the oddest set up ( a bit like Scotland).
Yes that's right because after they've played their 30 game season they go straight into the play offs, another 10 games. The league winner is whoever is top after the play offs.
Very odd way to do things......imagine being Bruges and losing out in the play offs when you are clearly the best team in the league. The Belgians need to find 4 more teams
If you read up on it it's the most peculiar set up in European football. They had 20 teams and narrowed it to 16 for more competition or something. I can't do links on my phone but go and read up on it. The bottom line is they've decided not to wait it out and have cut the season short by 11 games and declaring a winner.
Bizarre. Probably makes for a bit of excitement, but it's hardly fair. I think the same of play-offs for the third promotion places in our lower leagues. There's no better way of determining who's the most deserving over a long season than just counting the points they win.
Indeed, I’ve read this twice and still don’t quite get it lol. https://punditfeed.com/long-reads/belgian-jupiler-pro-league/
Yes that's the article I read. It does remind us though that as far as the European leagues are concerned, they can pretty much do what they like.
Further to my last post - while each league can be run how each sees fit, they must comply with UEFA rules in order to be involved in their competitions. It seems UEFA are unhappy that (without mentioning names, but it's Belgium) one of the leagues has decided it's outcome not on the field of play and could face exclusion from CL and EL.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52140204 I'm fine to wait. Next season is next season. If that's cancelled, so be it
