Indeed, but it was at the sacrifice of a lot of your attacking threat. United have great attacking players, probably the 2nd or 3rd best forward line in the league. The reason they didn't perform as they should is because LvG was holding the team back to protect the dodgy defence, especially after the Leicester game.
Surely the Overall WUM rating would be a product of 1/10 x 9/10 making 9/100 = 9% I demand a recount!
I'm not blinded by repeated shots of his great TV saves, but tend to remember him running around his box and floundering as neither his positioning or decision making are particularly good imo. He has the promise of being a great keeper but he's very over-rated and performances cherry-picked. How about the 5 he conceded against Leicester, or the 4 against the Dons. Both Chelsea's keepers, and the one they charitably gave Arsenal, are better
Bit of a patronising post considerimg we watch him week in week out NOT simply repeated shots of his saves. Actually it's you who appears to be blinded by the repeated shots of minor mistakes from 15 min highlights on Match of the Day you were probably watching. From a media intent on trying to put down a very good young keeper settling into a new league. You've probably never seen a full 90 mins otherwise you would have realised long before this season how good he actually is. He was quality at Atletico Madrid and it was only a matter of time before he settled and showed his quality here. We had the same bollox with VDS when he joined, but fairweather fans seem to forget that. With De Gea minor errors were blown out of proportion. The irony is that his positioning and decision making, as well as his composure and reaction are probably why he's so good at making saves look so easy. Re: Leicester game, surely you dont take such a simplistic view??? Buffon conceded 4 goals in two league games in one season after his record breaking move to Juventus. 5hit keeper then? Clearly not.
He hooked you good there, Treble. When he made the wild claim that Chelsea and arsenal keepers were better, you should have known. Even the respective fans of those clubs know De Gea is number one.
No, you're right. That proves him to be ****. No amount of highlights of great saves will prove him to be any good mind. No, only a highlight of a mistake can definitively prove someone to be ****.
That's the best you can come up with? It's not even a real game ffs. Sums it up really. Look how **** dog is, he made a mistake in a friendly. You're arse indeed.
It just highlights his play imo. Great instinctive shot stopper, no doubt, which looks good on TV, but he doesn't marshal his defence very well, he doesn't control his box, he's a bit of a flapper and his decision making is poor. That's my opinion, and why you'll be battling for 3rd/4th some way behind the leaders, and I don't think you'll get past the league stages of the CL.
He did drop a single catch last season. His defence, which was slated all season turned out to be the 4th best (largely down to ddg). He made world class strikers look a bit **** and made overpriced former qpr players look like amateurs. He's the best keeper in the league, by a clear margin. It's not up for debate either.
If the only reason anyone can come up with for United battling for 3rd/4th is De Gea, then we have no worries at all. So..we're winning the league then
