VdHoorn - my opinion hasn't changed on him - last season he was a liability and in todays match he's just not up to it again.
We beat a very good team today, but the reality is that we should have been 3 or 4 down at half time. We did play some good football at times and got our rewards for it. However our defence still looked like they've only just started to play football on quite a few occasions. That will be our downfall this season.
Good 2-1 victory against a team that will be in this season’s Champions League. Hopefully, no further departures (Ayew apart) and we may just surprise a few people. That said, probably need a couple of unattached/loan signings to bolster the squad. That said, let’s hope that Oli & VdH aren’t sold before the window shuts.
That's the only worry - that players get sold at the last minute with no time for replacements. At least the window is only August 9th.
A lucky win but that is neither here or there. The performance is the most important thing and there are some positives but many not so positive....Much work needs to be done and The club must release some funds to allow Cooper to bring in a couple of players to shore up our defence. As for Grimes being the captain then that is a bad idea for a goal scorer and forward as he needs to be free from responsibility and not worry what other players are doing.....Most clubs favour a defender as Captain as they can see most players positioning during the game...Ash,Martinez and Monk were all excellent Captains for us....
Surely that side is a good indication of how we start first game, short of Mcburnie going and routledge being fit.
For me that is why we shouldn't be signing a 19year old as our alternative, a good Championship experienced CD is what was required, not another kid. Still think we can scrape to top half finish.
Having seen u on the red button it was clear u needed at minimum 1 really dominant centre back and a keeper. A 19 year old from Watford on the face of it doesnt look the answer. Saying that Birch told your fans that u dont need to sell anymore. Therefore if McBurnie goes then unless hes a liar u should have 15m plus to spend to bring in 3 or 4 quality players.
McBurnie will be gone and I am going with the liar bit as we wont spend a penny, it will be another 19 year old loan signing from an average PL side whose academy is no better than ours as a replacement. They have no intention of re-investing in our squad from the sale of players.
Grimes named captain for 19/20. Guess he’s not going to be sold https://www.swanseacity.com/news/matt-grimes-named-swansea-city-captain
