62 minutes: #LFC subs - Coates, Lucas, Kelly on, Johnson, Toure, Gerrard off #lfctour

1-0 win. Good clean sheet and a preseason game that was competitive and a proper workout.

Will take some time to accept that we are not going to be as prolific as last season

Need to invest in some flair players.

Must get a quality striker.

What's Batistuta up to these days?

How was Coates? When we bought him, he was THE south american young defender. Amazing what can happen in a year or so.

Thought Coates looked good. Needs to cut out trying the 40 yard passes though.

Wasn't best game but maybe after going 1-0 it was nice to see we can sit back and soak up a bit of pressure, something we couldn't do last year!

Better to play a competitive game than go win 7-0 or 13-0 against nobodies.

meh....

the reality is skertl, agger, lovern, sahko, toure, ilori, kelly, coates, wisdom... that can be translated into about 70-75million in value of Cbs for 2 slots. In other words I don't care what coates did yesterday he and toure must leave the club this summer and in reality ilori shoud go on loan again due to injury in preseason meaning no time to show anything and kelly should go too. (birghton are in)

I'd be happy to look again IF one of skertl/agger goes but right now this is a huge over supply.

Been pleasantly impressed with Coates this pre-season. Not easy for a young lad moving straight from South America and into the PL.

He's painfully slow though but at least he's proactive and likes to play a high line. I would like to see him on loan to a PL club to prove himself.

--------------------

Good to see us in a semi competitive game - great pressing from Hendo and Can who could be a real force in central midfield.

I still have my concerns about the attack though - one injury to Sturridge and I think we will massively struggle. Also, what made SAS so good was that one would drift wide and the other was guaranteed to be in the middle. I fear that Sturridge could drift to the wing and no one is in the centre.

i totally agree.

what made SAS work was one would be always trying to get in behind CBs.. always. that forced teams deeper. if we revert to a 4-3-3 with widemen then any drifting from sturridge = nobody in the box and an easy time for opponents. You simply have to get in behind and stretch teams.

Basically we miss Suarez pretty badly. Mainly because we still haven't compensated for his loss in the final third. Not bothered if we sacrifice a little bit of our endeavour last season to be more solid and not let four goals in in as many minutes every third game.

Remember how we were the start of last season without Suarez? 3 1 nil wins. Boring, nervy, but getting the job done. Suarez lights up the team though and he didn't just provide goals, he provided assists and second assists and also took atleast two oppenent players out of the game to mark him. I still hope and expect a marquee signing (vidal/reus etc), not to replace him but to nonetheless help ease his loss. the players we have signed to date should have been signed even if Suarez had stayed, just to give us enough depth for the CL
