Details of our preparation for the new season are beginning to emerge. The Premier League fixtures are released on June 19, with the season starting on August 17. Before then, the first team squad play in the Barclays Asia Trophy with games on July 24 and July 27. The development squad have 1 confirmed game so far. This is at MK Dons on Wednesday July 31. I believe we are intending to take a first team to play Porto in early August.
We play Sunderland on July 24 in the opening game of the BAT with South China and Man City playing in the later game. The losers play first on the 27th and the winners follow later that day to see who wins the trophy. It's in Hong Kong again this year. Hopefully people will update this thread with any further fixtures that are added to the list.
Aside from the pre-season games, the players not involved in the end of season Internationals and summer tournaments, will have a 38 day break. This involves a complete rest of 17 days, followed by a 21 day fitness programme building up in readiness for the start of pre- season training. Obviously those involved in games outside of this have different schedules.
Really? South Africa? Surprised there aren't bigger/more affluent markets out there that would be targeted. Like East Asia, obviously. Hang on - so you're saying that the club are doing a South Africa thing this summer? Hope so - we can pick up some decent players whilst touring down there!
I guess it made sense in the run up to the world cup with their football economy booming... now it would be a waste of time surely. We've got rid of Pienaar and if Khumalo had any dignity he would deny being in our employment at all costs! Those South-Africa tours are bad memories, and we could serve the Spurs 'brand' better by going elsewhere...
Maybe it's cos I'm tired but Khumalo and Mabizela have sort of morphed into a single South African non-entity to me. I never want to hear the phrase "the next Lucas Radebe" again.
Wednesday August 7, a Spurs XI will go to Cambridge City in a testimonial match for their long serving manager Gary Roberts. Gary has been at Cambridge City for 10 years and has done well to keep a position this long as he is also a full time Policeman !!
Ticket prices for this game have now been confirmed and for adults it is £20 in all areas. Tickets going on sale on June 17.
Back to Kingstonian again. For the second successive season, a Spurs XI will be playing against Kingstonian. This will be on Thursday July 18th. Let's hope the home club are better prepared this time. Last year there was only one turnstile open for hundreds of Spurs fans and caused very long queues.
Should Have come to Sutton United,no long queues there,we have more turnstiles, Kingsmeadow was never any good
Anyone know if any of our pre-season games will be televised? ESPN usually do a few, and sometimes Eurosport?
when does ESPN shut down then? Thought it was not until just before season starts? I'm already signed up for BT sports so whats the chances of them getting some pre-season friendlies? **Edit - just checked BT Sports from 1st August, ESPN ends 31 July**
