Just a thread on our pre-season games coming up. Videos, pictures, match commentary, stream links etc all welcome.

We fly out to Oz today (22nd July) for our first proper pre-season games against Juve and Atleti on the 26th and 29th respectively, the squad that's flown is as follows:

Luke Amos
Dominic Ball
Tom Carroll
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Nacer Chadli
Marcus Edwards
Christian Eriksen
Tom Glover
Shayon Harrison
Vincent Janssen
Erik Lamela
Ryan Mason
Luke McGee
Will Miller
Josh Onomah
Heung-Min Son
Kieran Trippier
Michel Vorm
Kyle Walker-Peters
Anton Walkes
Victor Wanyama
Kevin Wimmer
Harry Winks
DeAndre Yedlin

No mention of potential new signing N'Koudou, while potential departure N'Jie isn't included. The guys who played in the Euros are also excluded with exception of Big Kev, whose Austria side were eliminated in the groups. A number of youngsters have gone, including the very highly rated Marcus Edwards, as well as other standout young lads such as Onomah and CCV. If Ball features I wonder if we'll see him at CB or in DM? He drew massive praise from his performances for Rangers last season when pushed up in to the DM role. KWP is likely set to feature at LB seeing as Rose and Davies are still on leave. Shay will also likely get some first team minutes and will look to learn from new boy Janssen.

Notable absentees along with N'Jie are Bentaleb and Pritchard, I wonder if this means their time at the club is near to an end?

After the tour we then face Inter in Norway on the 5th August. By then I'd hope we're fully done in the transfer window in terms of first team squad business and we'll have an idea of what the squad/ team will be looking like going into the new season.

I'm sure there's a few Spurs XI games we can look out for too, as well as any closed door friendlies like the ones against Nottingham Forest (3-0: Son, Carroll and Pritch), Fulham (0-1) and Rotherham United (3-1: Janssen, Harrison and Edwards).

26th July - Juve 2-1 Spurs (Lamela).

29th July - Atleti 1-0 Spurs.

AFAIK I think the PL season starts well before our Euro neighbours, so Atletico + Juventus will
not be in full swing. Even so, it will be a good test.

Especially for the Academy prospects (some of whom we hope may be able to step up to the senior
level this season now we have the CL impacting on our PL squad) .

Yeah I definitely think CCV will be looking to establish himself in the first team set up this season, with Jan out for the first few weeks/ months, Kev and Toby will need some competition and cover so Cameron will surely be looking to jump any queues and be their main rival for a spot.
Onomah will look to get more starts and minutes, he's a special talent and I think in time to come will definitely be a fully fledged starter in our XI.
Winks, KWP, McGee and Ball could perhaps use this time to get themselves noticed by good clubs in the hopes of securing a loan deal, as right now, their respective positions are stacked.
If Edwards showcases his ability then he could use this pre-season as a fast track into the first team squad, rumours were that his new contract was agreed on the basis of getting first team minutes, so we'll see how true that is in the coming months.
Shay will also look to use this time to show Poch that he can be the understudy to Kane and Janssen, or at the very least to try and secure a loan deal like some of the others.

My first instinct was maybe this had something to do with the Olympics - but then I saw Bentaleb isn't in Algeria's squad.

The most notable absentee of the lot is Fazio, though: because nobody even noticed that he's absent.

Any player that played in the Euros and got out of the groups is still absent, I believe.
Kane, Alli, Dier, Davies, Walker, Lloris, Alderweireld and a few others, which also includes some injured players
A couple of selections are a bit odd, though. The obvious ones being 3/4 of The Belgian Contingent being rested due to playing a Euros match on June 26th even though Lamela travels despite playing in the Copa America final on the same day, while Onomah played 90 minutes in all four matches in the Euro U19s in the past couple of weeks.

I can understand Onomah, as he didn't play that much last season, but Lamela's not had much rest, has he?

Our goals in the 3-0 win vs Forest and 3-1 win vs Rotherham. <ok>

As others have pointed out there's enough inconsistency in the selection for the tour group (Lamela going, Son going despite I thought him being involved in the Olympics?) that I'm not sure we can read too much into it. I'd be upset if we sold Bentaleb but kept Carroll and Mason (I though the former was out of contract?) as the Algerian is probably the most talented of the three, unless his attitude really has fallen through the floor. Maybe there are fitness concerns around those who stayed as well as perhaps looking to offload?

Son's definitely going, as he's squad captain.

Bundesliga clubs are certainly getting the thin edge from the Olympics, though: Lars and Sven Bender, Max Meyer, Timo Horn, Leon Goretzka, Julian Brandt (among others) are all key players for their clubs are in the Germany squad, and there's a smattering of other regular players in the Denmark and South Korea squads.

Talking of Bundesliga clubs, as we haven't had a random rumour for a while...we're linked with Kaiserslautern's Luxembourgian striker Maurice Deville because of reasons.

Here's an issue with reports saying we'll be selling Bentaleb, Pritchard and N'Jie as they didn't travel to Australia: Chadli traveled, yet he's been strongly linked with Swansea this week and he's apparently been on the outs with Poch since the Wet Spam match.

He was at the Euros. True, he didn't play, but it's hardly diplomatic to say Moussa, you're going to Australia because you never got off the bench."

However, that still leaves the question why Lamela traveled wide open, given he regularly featured in the Copa America.

The more you look at that list, the more it seems as though Poch and his team had some sort of selection strategy and criteria in place for the first half hour of discussion, but then the sun came out and they went 'screw it, let's just pick names out of a hat and hit the beer garden'. I would've thought maintaining Dembele's match fitness would be crucial given that he won't be playing until September.

Nothing to do with actual playing , this afternoon (Oz time) Vorm,Yedlin, Mason & Chadli went and did a coffee making challenge / PR exercise somewhere in Melbourne( they do some odd things in that city!)
Needless to say none were much good but it was fun to watch - you'll find it on F/B

Poch has more or less confirmed that Bentaleb Fazio & Pritchard are on the way out in a press conference today.

TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino says he feels sorry for Australian football fans after leaving behind some of his club’s biggest stars for the trip to Melbourne, but says tough decisions need to be made sometimes for the future of the club.

The Argentine, speaking ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Juventus at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday, admitted he would have loved to have brought the likes of captain Jugo Lloris, Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Dele Alli for the International Champions Cup, but his players are “not machines”.

“I feel sorry too for our supporter, it would be great if all the players could be involved in the tour in Australia,” he said at AAMI Park.

“We could see last year in Sydney (when they played Sydney FC in 2015) it was amazing the welcome of our supporters. We feel sorry but I think they understand it is very difficult, they arrive a few days ago, we come here.

“It was a very difficult decision for me but it’s important they build their fitness after the whole season, very stressful season, Euros was very difficult.

“We always say the same. They are not machine; they feel, they need to rest, recovery, (they have maybe) only 15-20 days or more holiday. For them it’s very important to be fit for the whole season.

“We have ahead a very important season – with Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup - we need to be ready to compete.

“I think you appreciate, feel now it was a better decision, but in the same we feel very sorry for our supporters.

“Sometimes we need to make strong decisions for the future of our team. It was important our players work in London.”

Pochettino also revealed that Clinton N’Jie, who was also left behind, is still part of his plans, but trio Nabil Bentaleb, Federico Fazio and Alex Pritchard know their futures lie elsewhere.

“I think it’s very clear their situation.

“They are not in my plan; they know, I made it clear with them, I communicated with them, it’s not a problem. They know the situation.”
