It's preseason. Mustn't get too high or too low. The important thing is has Mauricio and the team learnt something from that game. Remember ManU has already lost this preseason....are they going to be rubbish? Sunderland beat Spurs...are they going to be better than Spurs. Roll on Saturday.
I believe that Poch would have learnt more negative things than positive from that game. Was all a bit meh.
People rating isgrove's performance way too highly, showed a burst of pace but didn't do anything with the ball much like ward-prowse who is also vastly overated on this forum. I would also add that I thought cork and schneiderlin looked more comfortable in possession than wanyama who didn't look uncomfortable but showed a bit too much of it at times.
What he learnt is that you can train all you like, but you need games. Still have 2 more before the league starts.
Ward-Prowse was played on the wing until the last ten minutes, that's not his position! But he still did more running than anyone else on the pitch.
Like our centre backs can't defend. Nothing new there ! Pretty sure it was Yoshida that tried to bring the ball down in our own area for the second? Or was it Dejan? I couldn't tell from the awful stream. Still have a few weeks to prepare, and at no point was our whole team anywhere near first choice. I'm convinced Boruc claims the first one.
Having not watched most of the game, did Shalke change their team around completely or play their main XI for most of the game?
I learnt that you can have a good first half, throw a load of subs on and everything will predictably go to ****. Not remotely concerned.
As Fran says, it's only a pre-season game. Yes, there were some things that can be taken by our coaching staff off the back of that game, but to have any kind of residual panic after that loss is mildly insane.
We were okay in the first half, as Downthe36 said change personal drasticly and it will change the performance. I thought Punch done okay but tried to do too much, Dejan looked pretty good as did Wanyama. I would like to also add did anyone else think that referee was bias towards Shalke?
I'm not dealing in absolutes, and I'm not saying we won't improve, but even in a friendly a professional CB shouldn't be making mistakes like that really. That was Sunday league! Hopefully it's just rustiness...
I've seen professional, international even, footballers make mistakes even my gran wouldn't make. Doesn't mean that player has no use and won't perform better on other days, does it?
