He was but people forget that many fans saw him as a complete liability - even before he threw a strop and went off to WHU. Good leader but legs were going. In a better team that flaw was not so apparent ( and personally I thought he was still quite speedy!)
Hmm, I remember it very differently. Fans wanted him to stay and sign a new deal for a reason, he was our captain, leader, consistent and a good CB. When he went to WHU and made mistakes everyone pointed out he wasn't the same player as he was at Saints.
I know. It just shows how wrong fans can be (who’d have thought…!). I remember when the view was being debated I went to WHU away ( the last one at Upton Park) and thought he still had a fair bit of speed in him. Reading the calls at the time that it was time to cash in, I did think ‘be careful what you wish for’. But I always had a sentimental attachment to older players who have served us well.
I think you were listening to the wrong fans I don't remember anyone saying anything but good stuff about Fonte when he was here And Puel NEVER playind him (our captain!) in Europe, I'd be pissed off about that When has that ever happened before or since? (NEVER!)
Looking at the highlights of Villareal ... Bedders is the last man when we've got the ball, I assume Ralph sees him as leading the back line Love the crossing to the far post Aribo ... He fools them by always looking out of control Plays seemlessly with both feet Just goes through tackles and keeps the ball Can finish Both their goals stemmed from a pass into the gap between Prowsey & the back four wheree he is ball watching, I think he needs to contcentrate
For all the discussion about the different formations we are playing pre season, let’s remember that behind Ralph we now have a completely different (and dare I say proper) coaching team? Maybe that is something to do with it.
Yeah, I Noticed quite alot that Bednarek was pointing and telling his team mates to be/go! Perhaps we longer feel the need to push him out thr door, I imagine if he does go then we need to bring in that Experienced CB
There is but he seems more actually in control than Asprilla was doesn’t he? Controlling the uncontrollables?
This is a really good way of showing how we play with defensive shape into transition and attacks. Exactly what I was saying the other day.
