He’s 20 and scored 12 goals last season and had an injury so was out for months. Give him a chance and he will come good. Bobby Reid had a great pre season against lower opponents and went onto having a great season.

IMO I would not be surprised if he’s going to be our next big sale if he carries on his progress.

Fine goal, this. Bell scoring at the second attempt.

GOAL! Bristol City 2-0 Newport (Wells)
Clinical stuff from the Bermudian. He charged down a clearance, advanced on Joe Day and then picked his spot in the bottom corner.

GOAL! Bristol City 7-0 Newport (Scott)
He's finally got his goal but it was made by Pring who produced a wonderful touch to take it into his stride and step up a shooting chance. The ball was slightly taken away from him but fell nicely to Scott who blasted past Day from close range.

    Full-time! Bristol City 8-0 Newport
As one-sided as the scoreline suggests. City were just too good going forward and so fluid in possession, with their movement causing all sorts of problems for the visitors.

Great to see Nahki Wells follow Tommy Conway and get among the goals while Alex Scott was also hugely influential.

We'll be switching across to a new blog shortly for coverage from the Oxford game.

    Full-time! Bristol City 4-1 Oxford
The whistle goes and City have another win in the bank but that's not the most important thing. Lots of good things in the game yet again, with Tommy Conway scoring twice, Anis Mehmeti looking inventive, Jason Knight busy (again) and, personally, Haydon Roberts was my man of the match.

I worry we haven’t played stronger opposition in order to test our defence a bit more. If we’re going to do well this season our defence needs to improve, especially against crosses and set pieces. We have brought in height which should help, but it’s difficult to judge until we face a team with enough quality to test us defensively.,

on balance that is correct assumption, but were we that good that the opposition didnt get a look in? SOME friendlies are usually a few goals each!

Of all people I don't understand why Pearson can't see the problems we have in defence, not just Vyner either, which I think will negate hope of anything better than a mid table finish next May.
I wonder if the non sale of Scott has scuppered any proper defensive additions.

For me, Pre Season games should be a mixture of easy and tougher games
For fitness and shooting practice by all means play the likes of Torquay and Swindon but I’d like to have seen us play at least one more really competitive team, Home or Away and Championship or even Prem
A false sense of well being and over confidence is always a concern when the opposition aren’t up to much.
But hey, maybe we’ll blow Preston away too, but I somehow doubt they’ll come here to roll over for us !

As I said previously our defence hasn’t been really tested yet. Getting fit is all well and good, but it’s much more tiring playing against strong opposition, playing teams we don’t really need to get out of second gear only works to a point.
